We also provide a listing of Other Labs available for adoption from individuals or shelters.

JOHNNY and PERCY: 6-7 months old, neutered males, yellow Labs, Johnny is 47 lbs and Percy is about 40 lbs

Johnny and Percy are about as cute as they can possibly get. These adorable brothers were picked up as strays in Bakersfield and no one came to reclaim them. They were so very sad in their kennels and had these long, sad faces and big brown eyes that just called out to us. They both had kennel cough, but are now over that and they have both been neutered. Their foster mom LOVES them. Hard to believe that boys that were strays, and that boys as young as these can be perfect house dogs, but they are!! They have the run of their foster’s home during the day and they are perfect. Of course, they completely entertain each other and, as you can see, take their naps together when they're finished playing. If they are separated, they might not be quite so perfect. They are VERY bonded to each other. We will separate them as long as whoever adopts them has another dog, but we'd LOVE them to go together. For puppies, they are very mellow. They are great with kids and fabulous with other dogs. Their foster mom has two large males and they are perfect with them. They travel well in the car, know "sit" and come when called. They are pretty good on their leashes. And they LOVE to play with toys. With these boys you get the fun of puppies and the manners of much older dogs....a perfect combination. Both boys are very smart and will be easy to train. We think they're VERY special. They're such easy dogs to have around and are so darn cute. We would like for someone to be around a good part of the day to continue with their training.

For more information on these boys, please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep Judy at (831) 261-3409. (No calls after 8:30pm please)

SIERRA: 7 years old, Yellow Lab, spayed female, approx 70 lbs.

Rambus and Sierra’s owners are losing their house and moving into a rental property, which does not allow pets. Rambus and Sierra are littermates and have been with their current owners since they were six weeks old. They are very heartbroken to have to give up these 2 family members. They are well behaved and housebroken. They respond to all the basic commands: sit, stay, come, leave it, etc. Unlike a lot of labs, they do not have a lot of interest in chasing a tennis ball. Rambus and Sierra love to be with their people. They are very gentle with children, cats and other dogs. They love to swim, chew on bones, go on walks, go to the beach, and ride in the car. Rambus and Sierra are both very fun, loving energetic dogs who love life. During their first five years they lived inside and outside. During the last two years they have lived outside with access to the garage to escape the elements. Rambus has an initial burst of energy and excitement each time he sees you. He does not jump up on people and calms down quickly though. He will give a warning bark briefly at night if he hears an unfamiliar sound. Sierra is a very sweet, very calm and sensitive dog. She does not bark or jump up on people. She is frightened of loud storms and fireworks though. Ideally they would like them to go together, but not necessary if preventing them from going to a loving family.

If you would like to meet Rambus and/or Sierra, please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep Deanne at 707-738-3859.

BELLA: 15 months old, spayed female, yellow Lab, 80 lbs.

Bella, like her namesake, is a beauty. She is a purebred yellow female, just a little over a year and as such meets all the criteria of our most sought after Labs. The current owners have had her since she was seven weeks old. Sadly, they are moving out of state and can’t take her. Due to her age, she is in the playful exuberant adolescent stage. And typical of most dogs of this age, she is chewy and mouthy (no, she won't talk back to you like most human teenagers, but she does like to chew toys, etc.). Therefore, Lab Rescue as well as the owners do not recommend her to go to a home with younger kids. With some basic training and some manners though, she has all the potential to be the belle of the ball...( i.e. a great family dog.) She is on Banefield wellness health care plan so had all her shots, has been spayed, is licensed in Solano County, and has her rabies tag. She has taken regular flea and heartworm preventative medication. She has been both an indoor and outdoor dog. Basically she has had everything except the basic training a young Lab needs.

If you are willing to put the time, energy and care into grooming this girl into a well mannered young lady, please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep Kathleen at 707-257-1326.

LEXI 10 Year Old, Yellow Lab, Unaltered Female, 70 lbs (Lab Rescue will coordinate her spaying once she is adopted)

Information from the current owner: Lexi is a 10-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever. We got her at 8 weeks old. She is purebred but I do not have her papers. My husband and I are separating, I have to move and am unable to keep her. When we got Lexi, my children were 8 and 5 so she has always been around kids and is good with them. She is a very sweet dog. She is gentle and loves to be loved. She has never been aggressive, nor bitten an adult or child. She gets along very well with other dogs. We have always had cats. They would rub against her legs and she would just sniff them and go about her business. If she is barking, it’s usually because she has decided it is time to eat or she may be low on water. She does occasionally bark at the opossum that runs along the back fence or out of excitement because we are home or someone is knocking on the door. She has for the most part been an outdoor dog, but she is housetrained. She always has access to the garage to get out of the heat or cold. At night she sleeps in the garage. In the wintertime she would sleep in our bedroom. (Lab Rescue comment: we want to find a home where Lexi can live inside with her family and that she doesn’t need to bark to ensure her water bowl is full!)

Lexi completed basic training. She knows the commands “heel”, “sit”, stay”, “come” and “off”. She does not jump on people. She loves to play fetch and go swimming. When discipline has been necessary, a spray bottle was very effective with her. Now if she is doing something I would like her to stop doing, all I have to do is show her the bottle and usually she will stop the behavior. She is housebroken and crate trained. She rides in her crate when we go camping and sleeps in her crate in the tent. She does tend to pull some when walking when she gets excited but some training with regular walks or a Gentle Leader type of head collar will take care of that. Lexi is a sweet, mild mannered, gentle dog. I would love to find a home where she will get the kind of attention she deserves as we have not been able to give her that attention. Lexi is current on all her shots and she a very healthy dog. She was taken to the Vet this week and is currently being treated for fleas. She has some missing patches of hair from scratching that will grow back. Lexi is currently located in Sonoma. See our top 10 reasons to adopt a seasoned Lab.

SKATE 10-Year-Old Neutered Male, Yellow Lab, 75 Pounds

Skate’s previous owner lost his business and moved into an apartment where he couldn’t have dogs, so fortunately a Lab Rescue foster home was available to save this deserving Lab. Skate is a very loving dog. He gets along with everybody and has been around a large number of people and dogs. He is not a chewer, but he has a cute habit of taking a shoe to bed with him to sleep with. He is very trainable dog and has adjusted quickly to the foster home and rules. He now sits until released for his food and is getting very good about sitting before he goes out the front door. He was an outside dog until arriving at his foster home, but quickly learned inside manners and is completely housetrained. It seems like Skate didn’t previously have a lot of affection and he has found out that he really likes it and is catching-up on 10 yrs of cuddling! He is a sweet guy and he will make someone a real buddy. He is a typical Lab and loves food, going into water, and for car rides. Skate has always had another dog around so it would be good if he can go to a home with a dog or a home where he will not be left alone for long periods of time. Skate is not compatible with cats or other small animals. He is a very healthy dog with plenty of life/energy, and is updated on his shots. Skate thrives with having clear rules/boundaries from a good pack leader and happily follows them.

If you would like to make Skate part of your home, please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374.

MAX-yellow: approx. 4 years old, neutered male, yellow Lab, approx. 100 lbs.

Max was surrender to a shelter by his owner. He is a very happy and excited young boy. He has some weight to lose and once he does he will be a much healthier boy. Max was temperament tested at the shelter and he passed with flying colors. He is very easy going and did not mind us checking out his teeth, ears, and tail. It is believed that Max lived on a farm with a variety of other animals. He only barked after he was put back in his kennel and we walked away, he did not bark when the other dogs were barking. Max is housebroken, he waits until he is taken out of his kennel to relieve himself. He needs some leash training but he does know sit. Max is a big boy, so it would be best if he went to a home with older childern.

If you are interested in making Max a part of your family, please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep, Liz at 415-613-6374.

COTY: 10 Years Old, Yellow Lab, Spayed Female, 85 Pounds

Coty came to Lab Rescue as the owner had to move and could not take her and he dropped her off at the Sonoma County shelter. The rescue rep received 5 phone calls asking her to pull Coty from the shelter as she was such a special girl. Coty is a big lover and gets along with everyone. She just wants to be loved and she will give it right back with many kisses. The foster has had Coty for 10 days now and they would love to adopt her but they are gone during the day and Coty will howl if left alone for long periods of time. The foster has left Coty with their other dog for the last few days and she sleeps quietly next to the other dog during the day. Lab Rescue would recommend Coty be adopted by someone who is home during the day or someone who has another dog. Coty is a very healthy dog and has no health issues other than needing to lose 20 pounds. The foster has Coty on a strict diet and has her walked twice a day. Coty is walked by her 12 year old neighbor and her friends. Coty would be fine placed in a home with all children - she is a very gentle dog. She has been a little stiff so the foster is giving her some medication for her stiffness. Coty is housetrained and loves all other animals. She does not chase cats and just wants to play with everyone. She will walk by your side without a leash and will come when called. One of the best things about Coty and why she is so special is she will talk to you. She will come over to you and will start having a conversation with you until you give her a pet or a scratch, she loves her backside scratched. Coty is updated on her shots and is ready to go to her forever home. Coty is located in Novato. See our top 10 reasons to adopt a seasoned Lab.

Duke
DUKE : 9 years young, purebred Yellow (Fox Red) Labrador Retriever, neutered male, 100 lbs

Duke desperately wants a family to call his own. We've been trying to find this lovable and snuggly boy a new home since last fall and are surprised that no one has responded about this great boy. Duke has lost some of his eyesight but gets around beautifully and is a very happy Lab. Duke once had a family and they loved him a lot, but one of the kids developed severe allergies and Duke had to go. He was so sad to leave his family. He's been in a great foster home and is doing really well, but he so wants a new family. He is a fun loving, happy go-lucky kind of dog that gets along with other dogs and cats too. He is completely housebroken, very eager to please, comes when called, and knows many commands and tricks including Sit, Lay, Speak and Shake Hands. He will even carry his own leash on walks. Duke will also balance a treat on his nose and hold it there until he’s told “OK” and he will toss it in the air and catch it. He is so eager to please, and loves being around people. He loves to put his head on your lap so you can scratch his ears, and will fall asleep in that position. If you are sitting on the couch, he will lay down on your feet, keeping them warm. He is easygoing and good natured, and absolutely loves to ride in the car. Duke gets very excited when he meets new people or goes to a great new place, and will bark in excitement. Duke prefers to have someone around most of the day though does fine when left alone in the house when his people are gone. He would do well in a home with another dog too. Duke is a big boy, but his foster feels he is a good weight. He's big boned, after all. Please give this deserving boy a chance to have his own family again. He's at the age when he's easy to have around and he doesn't ask for much...just love and a place to call home. Duke is truly a big teddy bear who will brighten your life for years to come.

If you could open up your heart and home to Duke,  please call GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374. Duke's foster can no longer keep him so we need to find him a home quickly.

TIGER, 9 Years Old, Lab mix, 60 lbs, neutered male
Tiger was living in San Leandro with his owner of 9 years who has had some health problems and has not been able to provide him with the care he needs. Lab Rescue has taken him to the Vet to get the care he needs and the Vet decided that it was best for him not to go back to the same living conditions. Tiger is currently in foster care. He was treated for his skin infections and ear infections and after a couple of weeks will be on his way to growing his hair back. He has been updated on all his shots and will be put on a special diet. He is a friendly, playful, good natured boy who loves to play and play with other dogs. He currently lives with a small dog who is his best friend. He loves to go for walks and will walk well on leash. He knows sit, down stay and will take treats gently from your hand. The last couple of years Tiger has been an outside dog due to the owners health but is house trained. (Lab Rescue wants him to be an indoor dog for the rest of his life.) He gets along well with other dogs, haven’t seen him around cats. Tiger loves to play fetch, go for walks, car rides and just being with people. Tiger would make a wonderful family dog & friend. He deserves the kind of life a dog as sweet as he is should have. Tiger is located in San Ramon. See our top 10 reasons to adopt a seasoned Lab.

CINDER: 8 Years Old, Black Lab, Neutered Male, 100 lbs (needs to lose some weight)

This dog was a beloved companion of a senior citizen, and has come into rescue upon the passing of his owner. In his time with his previous companion, he did not go for a lot of walks, and we suspect he didn’t spend a lot of time with other dogs. We’ve had the pleasure of watching him blossom as he gets exposed to new experiences. He went for a 3 hour hike on Montara mountain, and was so joyful to watch him discover all the sights, sounds and smells of nature. On a different day, he went for a 2.5 mile run, and was ready for more. He would be a great companion for someone who loves the outdoors. He’s also happy with a 15-20 minute walk around the neighborhood. After exercise, he’s content to relax for hours at a time. He’s fine being left indoors for several hours, as long as he got some good exercise beforehand. He does not like to be left outside alone. His housetraining has been perfect. He’s obviously not very experienced with other dogs, but seems to already be learning how to meet and play with new dogs (though he still gets nervous when he is on leash and an off-leash dogs come up to him). He is so tuned into his humans that he would probably be fine off leash (though we have not done much of that, due to local leashing laws). He’s very easy on leash. He really wants to be close to his humans, and is very responsive to what his humans want from him-he’s very trainable. He’s very calm and well mannered around kids. He’s a delightful and quiet companion—happy to be close to you, but not demanding at all. He doesn’t jump up, he doesn’t bark much, he doesn’t demand attention other than being close to you. This dog has the energy and strength of a young dog, but the mellowness and calm of an older dog. He is currently located in Menlo Park.

BONES : 3 Years Old, Neutered Male, Black Lab, 85 Pounds

I have 3 year old neutered male black lab who needs a new home. We had a litter and we asked the people who adopted the dogs to please bring them back if things did not work out. We have had 2 dogs returned to us and we can't keep four dogs as we may have to move into a smaller place. Bones has lots of energy and loves to play with toys and his favorite is stuffed animals. We have had him for 3 months now, had him fixed, started teaching him sit and wait to come into the house, to take treats gently from your hand and he will only bark when he thinks you're going to let him in..but don't...but if you say "quiet" out the window it will taper off. He was an outside dog and an only dog for 3 years and he is doing quite well with our three other dogs. He loves to run and play with them and is very loving to them. We have allowed him in the house and he does not have any accidents. We are working on him sitting at the door as a few times he has run out the door. Bones is fine around kids and does not jump up but due to his size he may be better around kids 7 and older. He is very interested in cats and he will chase after the cat if the cat runs. Bones needs work on not pulling on the leash but he is very smart and will pick up things quickly. He is a very healthy dog and is updated on his shots. He is located in Fairfield.

JAKE: 5 Years Old, Black Lab, Neutered Male, 100 lbs (should be 80-85lbs)

Jake’s current owner says: I adopted Jake when he was 12 weeks old and he was raised inside the house and potty trained to go to the sliding glass door when he had to go to the bathroom. Jake was raised with a female Jack Russell and two cats which he just loves. Jake was also raised around my two daughters age 11 and 14 years old. Jake has always been very gentle around the kids and has never bitten or snapped at anyone. Jake loves to fetch tennis balls and loves going on walks and swimming. Jake has a stuffed duck that he loves to carry around with him all over the place. This past two years, my wife feel in love with two Chihuahua's and adopted them. Since then, Jake has not been given attention and he now sits in a kennel outside. It's not fair to Jake that he has been placed into this situation and therefore I am trying to find a good home for Jake where he will get the attention that he deserves. Jake know some commands, sit, stay, down and heel. He walks fairly well on the leash but will jump up at times to greet people. He will take treats gently from your hand and you can remove any toys from his mouth. Jake loves to ride in the car and does not know why he has been put out in the backyard. He is a very gentle dog and deserves so much more. Jake is very healthy and updated on his shots, he just had a wellness check but he needs to lose 15 - 20 pounds. He is located in Oakley.

YOGI ~10 Years Young, Neutered Male, Chocolate Lab, 95 lbs.

Yogi may be an oldie but absolutely still a goodie! People who meet him tell the foster what a distinguished handsome boy he is with his lovely chocolate coat and soulful eyes. He’s a real sweetheart, very affectionate and LOVES to be where his people are, curled up at their feet. Yogi is great meeting new people and doesn’t jump up on them. He’s friendly with other dogs, but can’t resist a good squirrel chase so would probably not do well with cats. He does whine when he sees other dogs, particularly small dogs, but then greets them and moves on. Yogi absolutely loves to go on walks and in the car - he gets very excited and actually leaps up & down like a young pup, but will sit on command while you put his collar and leash on. The foster has been working on his walking nicely at heel, and a Gentle Leader type of head halter would keep this big guy in control by even a smaller or older person. Yogi knows "sit" and "down" and "go lie down" and "wait". He waits nicely for his meals until he’s told “OK”. He will sit patiently for kids to pet him, and will take treats gently with a reminder. Yogi loves to explore new spaces and is curious about all the great things to sniff in the park, so is working on “come” when around all these tempting distractions.

Yogi still has plenty of life in him and is very healthy and up to date on all vaccinations (we have his vet records from previous owner). He gets regular flea and heart worm preventative medication, and takes glucosamine daily to help with mild arthritis in his hind legs that most big ‘ole Labs get. Regular exercise by his wonderful foster family has helped him lose over 5 lbs and should take off another 5 lbs to reach his ideal weight. Yogi is house broken and crate trained, and has no problems with long flights of stairs. He sleeps quietly through the night on his bed upstairs in the office with the foster’s dog, or sometimes in their bedroom at the foot of the bed. He will alert you when people come to the door, but then runs and gets a toy to greet them. He also barks at other strange noises outside. He is fine being left in the house with the foster’s dog when they go out, but would probably not do well as an only dog left alone a lot. It always amazes Lab Rescue that people discard gems like Yogi when they have a couple of babies (which he was nice and calm around but they no longer had time for a dog), but their loss can be your gain!

LUCKY 10 Years Old, Yellow Lab, Neutered Male, 80 lbs

Lucky is one happy dog! He is as sweet as he looks. This handsome boy LOVES life, people and food. Lucky has been in a loving home for 10 years; his owners sadly have to move and cannot take him along. He is a typical Labrador: full of love and full of life. He is healthy, extremely friendly, was raised with children, and has lived with one owner since he was a puppy. He has been trained with hand signals, but also knows voice commands for sit, stay, down, heel, fetch, friend, treat, no beg, settle, wait, leave it, drop, good boy, I love you, breakfast, dinner, easy, and of course, “cookies”. Lucky is a very sensitive dog so if you tell him no he will stop in his tracks. He will walk well on leash and loves all animals and people. He will take treats gently from your hand and will sit and wait before he will eat his dinner. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed indoors. He is fully house trained and will stand by the door when he needs to go out. He only barks when he needs to alert you to something…mostly, he “talks” with his tail. Lucky is a very healthy dog and is updated on his shots. He is located in Orinda.

MAX-black: 14 to 18 months old, neutered male, black Lab (purebred)

Max is a gorgeous, purebred black lab. He’s perfectly proportioned, physically fit, spectacular looking and very sweet. He’s very loving, gives big Lab kisses and just loves to spend time with people. Max is housebroken. He’s also micro chipped. Max another casualty of the economy was dumped at the local elementary school where the owners hoped he would find a family to adopt him. He spent a couple of days at the school yard where he played happily with the children until animal control discovered him and took him to the local shelter. The shelter staff in Delano recognized what a gorgeous, nice, friendly Lab he was and in desperation contacted a veterinarian in Bakersfield hoping she would rescue him. They knew there was not much of a chance he would get adopted in a small ranching town where the majority of the dogs are working cattle dogs. Luckily she rescued and fostered him for two weeks with her seven dogs, a horse and visiting neighbor’s dogs. Max was respectful and pleasant with all the dogs and the horse. He was great with her two year old granddaughter who just adores him. He’s a typical, young Lab, goofy, adorable, inquisitive, fun loving and compassionate. He is NOT a barker and doesn’t dig (as far as we’ve been able to tell). He will make a great exercise buddy. He’s OK on a leash, pulls slightly when distracted. Max is up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm negative.

Even with all our volunteers, it costs a lot to save and place 300 Labs a year. There are costs to bail-out these dogs from the shelters along with vet and temporary kennelling costs when no foster homes are available. Please consider a donation of cash, vehicle, or even your time through volunteering.
