Whenever possible, GGLRR Lab Rescue will list Labradors that are available through San Francisco Bay Area animal shelters, other rescue organizations, and individual rescuers. These organizations are not part of GGLRR. We only provide this listing service as a courtesy for 2 weeks to Northern/Central California Labs and encourage people willing to drive/fly further to check PetFinder or Adopt a Pet. If you are interested in any of the dogs listed from another organization, please contact that group directly.
We have had tremendous success helping these local shelters and rescue groups place Labs. If you should adopt one of the dogs listed through one of these organizations, please notify our webmaster so we can keep our site as up to date as possible.
Please note: since we are a Lab Rescue, we only list Labrador Retrievers or Lab-mixes that appear to be mostly Labrador. For additional dogs in need of new homes, please search:
Libby is a five and one-half year old Labrador Retriever mix. She is a sweet dog who is eager to please and quick to learn. Libby is spayed and has records of her excellent medical care and all her shots. She also is micro-chipped. Libby was born among the roots of a tree and rescued through a Berkeley agency by her former owner who recently passed away. He was her only human. She has had little socialization, beyond her owner, who rarely had people in his home. Since his passing, she has spent much time with his niece and her teenagers, who find Libby loving, teachable, easy going and energetic. She is not territorial, is house trained and loves to run in the park. She needs training although she has had some leash training and knows how to sit (sort of). We think with the proper training she could be a good hunting dog. She also loves to ride in the car. She has been both an indoor and outdoor dog. She has had everything except the basic training a young Lab needs. She needs an animal loving family who is patient and willing to train her She has spent her whole life with her brother Ezra and ideally they would be adopted together. A solo adoption would be ok too although we think she would probably not do well as an only dog left alone a lot. For more information or if you would like to adopt Libby please contact Sue at suephalen2@yahoo.com. Tell them GGLRR Lab Rescue sent you. 7/29/10
I am writing this in hopes of finding a new loving home for our 7 year old yellow lab Bolo. Unfortunately we are moving to a place that doesn't allow pets, and we have exhausted all other options in trying to find a place for him. Our family has had Bolo since he was 4 months old. He is a full yellow Lab and weighs about 80 lbs. He is very friendly with my two sons, ages 3 and 8. He has been trained and does follow the sit and stay commands very well. He is an outdoor dog presently, so he is not fully house trained. Bolo has a very friendly temperament and also is very active. He loves playing catch and going for walks. He does have a habit of chewing things outside if not exercised enough (which is our fault, not his.) He also gets along well with other dogs, as he has lived with another dog for the past year and a half. I know Bolo is an older dog, but he will make a great addition to a wonderful, loving family. Bolo has been an outdoor dog and would love to live inside and be part of a new family. Bolo is located in San Leandro. Plesae call Joel at 510-517-3755 to learn more about him and see him. Alder, Cedar and Mom, Willow arrived in CA from Arkansas about 2 months ago where they were found by a kind family who took care of them. One of CARRE's rescue partners in AR contacted us to see if we could help with Mom and puppies as black dogs are so hard to place in AR. The puppies have all been neutered, micro-chipped, wormed and given all their puppy shots and rabies. The puppies are about 18 to 20 weeks old now and ready for their new homes. We could not adopt them out sooner because a week after they arrived in CA they broke with Parvo. That was over 6 weeks ago now and they are strong healthy puppies. Momma dog Willow is just as kind and sweet of a dog as you would ever want to meet. If you would like to adopt Alder or Cedar please email CARRE for an adoption application. These puppies will be at the Santa Rosa Petco this coming Saturday, 7/31/10, from noon to 4 pm..Tell them GGLRR Lab Rescue sent you. 7/29/10

These cute lab mix puppies are about 18 weeks old. We believe they are mixed with Great Dane as they are big puppies, ranging from 25 - 40 pounds. There are 5 of these boys. Very social, outgoing boys that already love playing in the kiddie pool. These puppies have been handled a lot and love to snuggle too. CARRE will be bringing the puppies to the Santa Rosa Petco on Saturday 7/31/10. We will be there from noon to 4 pm. Please come by and meet the puppies. Sassy is a 6 year old, very healthy, female black lab mix. Sassy loves to play with toys, is house broken, has been spayed, has all her shots, and is micro-chipped. Sassy is not aggressive toward other dogs - but she will bark at them briefly before shying away. Do you and your kids want a family dog? If you adopt this sweet female Lab you spare yourself from suffering through all the house breaking, vet expenses, and obedience training required raising a puppy. There is a lot to like in rehoming a grown dog like Sassy. Adopting this well mannered lady gives your children the opportunity to immediately enjoy a sweetheart dog. Sassy is a *family* dog that loves to play with the kids. She is used to being in the house with small children. Because Sassy was raised with children she is gentle with them. Sassy loves to play with toys, is housebroken, has been spayed, has all her shots, and is micro-chipped. Meet Drifter...He is a 6 year old neutered male Lab/Shep. He gets along good with other dogs and doesn’t seem to have any interest in cats. When he is in his kennel he tries to get your attention by barking to say “hey look at me”. “Drifter” would be a great addition to any active family. He is micro chipped and current with vaccinations. For more information on Drifter please contact Monika Helgemo, Superior of Animal Services in Antioch at (925) 779-6990.Tell them GGLRR Lab Rescue sent you. 7/23/10
Jack was found wandering the streets with his buddy Jill. She got her wish for a new home, but Jack has been waiting a while for his new home. His former owner came looking for him at the shelter, but sadly didn't have the means to support him. Jack will need some leadership in his new home, as he can be pushy around treats, but will work hard for them. He lives to please, and trains very well. He has also done well with a diet, which he should continue in his new home. He loves kids, but not every dog. He is extremely personable, making friends easily. Jack is microchipped, neutered, and current on his vaccines. Jack is waiting for his new home at the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County, in Redwood Valley, CA. The phone number is 707-485-0123. The shelter is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 1 pm to 5 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays form 11 am to 3 pm. Tell them GGLRR Lab Rescue sent you. 7/29/10
Smiley is a cute lab mix. He was a stray who came through another shelter. Have you ever seen such a silly grin? Smiley's shows a toothy glow as a show of diffusing tension when confronted by change, not fear or threat. This guy has a few years on him, but is just as happy as a puppy. He must have been well-loved where he came from. He walks very well on a leash, and gets along great with other dogs. Smiley likes kids, and might be okay with some cats. Smiley is microchipped, neutered, and current on vaccines. Smiley is waiting for his new home at the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County, in Redwood Valley, CA. Even with all our volunteers, it costs a lot to save and place 300 Labs a year. There are costs to bail-out these dogs from the shelters along with vet and temporary kennelling costs when no foster homes are available. Please consider a donation of cash, vehicle, or even your time through volunteering.
