Martha Louise Shaw

Martha Louise Shaw 48, of Oakland, passed away on Leap Year Day (Feb. 29) following a valiant 11-year battle with cancer. Born in Springfield, MA, on Sept. 11, 1959, she was the daughter of Lewis A. and Carol Roper Shaw of Scottsdale, AZ. 

Her great love was the raising and showing of Labrador Retrievers. She had four AKC champions, and several of her dogs have found homes in such far-away places as the Philippines, Canada, Poland and Wales. She was a past-president and show chairman of the Golden Gate Labrador Retrievers Club.  A memorial fund has been established in her name with Golden Gate Labrador Retrievers Rescue, Inc., 2515 Lexington Way, San Bruno, CA 94066, or donations may be made to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Box 224523, Dallas, TX 75222.

She was a 1981 cum laude graduate of Springfield College, majoring in rehabilitation, and received her training as a physical therapist at the Mayo School of Health Related Sciences, Rochester, MN. She completed the Kaiser Manual Therapy Orthopedic Residency Program in 1991, was board certified as an orthopedic specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association in 1995 and received a master's degree in health sciences from San Francisco State University the following year. She was associated with physical therapy clinics in Bedford, NH, and Phoenix, AZ, before joining the Rehabilitation Services Dept. of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Oakland in 1991.
