7/4/08 Holly asked to remove him because his fosters may keep him.

BO NEUTERED YELLOW MALE APPROXIMATELY 7 YEARS YOUNG 65 PUREBRED  What a beautiful, sweetheart of a dog he is and a pure delight! Bo was rescued from a high kill shelter in an area where large dogs don’t get adopted easily.  He has been in foster care.  His foster describes him as a sweetheart!! His favorite thing to do is follow you (and especially KIDS) around with a toy or a bone in his mouth.  It's very cute!! He's so puppy-like: playful, happy and always has a 'smile' on his face! He would be a great family dog. He loves company, so one stay-at-home parent would be a dream. He is crate trained and house broken. He pays little to no attention to the foster’s cat.  He’s current on his vaccinations and ready to go to his forever home.  If you are interested in Bo, please contact Holly at (650) 322-9888.

Hello I am Desi. I am a 1 ½ year old male, purebred Black Lab.  I will be neutered very soon.  My story is kind of sad. I was loved, but my human guy could not stay out of trouble with the law, so he thought it was best that I find a new home.  I saw tears in his eyes when he left me here at the Ukiah Shelter.  I lived with a 4 year old and loved playing with other dogs.  It is easy to see when, you meet me, my affectionate and easy going manner.  It is no wonder I did so well with a young child. Please consider coming to the Ukiah Shelter to meet me.  The shelter is just two hours from the Bay Area.  You can get directions, more photos of me and more information about adopting me by email my new friend Sage at mountais@co.mendocino.ca.us  Tell them Lab Rescue sent you. 6/17/08

Hello I am called Lilly.  I am a cream colored retriever mix.  I am about 6 years old. I am very mellow.  My last person did not do a good job of keeping me flea-free so some on the hair near by butt is gone.  You would not notice unless you really looked. I am telling you just so you know I never want to have those pesky things on me again, so I am looking for a very responsible human family to live with.  I was surrendered to the Ukiah shelter by my past owner who had to move in with his mom.  She has one of those barking little dogs and she did not like me and to tell you he truth I did not like her either. I have meet big dogs here at the shelter and I like them... Please come to meet me.. To find me please email Sage at mountais@co.mendocino.ca.us Tell them Lab Rescue sent you. 6/12/08  6/18/08 This dog is still available for adoption.

7/1/08 Fresca was being fostered by a family. They loved her so much they decided to adopt her. Wish her luck in her new home.

FRESCA  2 year old spayed chocolate female   63 lbs  Fresca was rescued from the Modesto shelter where they are always overcrowded.  She is a beautiful milk chocolate color with wonderful soft eyes and a silky soft coat.  Fresca is a shy girl who loves attention and affection more than anything else.  She is not a retriever and hasn't shown much interest in playing with toys.  She just wants to sit by your side and put her head in your hand and be with you.  She is in a wonderful foster home with another lab and they are best of friends.  She is shy around other dogs that are in her face, but given the correct introductions, she is fine with them.  We also think she would be fine with cats.  She will jump up on you, especially to greet and her foster is working on that.  She knows sit and is working on down.  She walks beautifully on a leash and stays right with her foster mom.  Fresca is sleeping in a crate at night and sleeps quietly through the night.  Did we say she is EXTREMELY AFFECTIONATE??!!  And she will look at you with total adoration if you give her attention.  Because of her shyness, we don't think she should go to a home with children.  She would be best in a home with a single person or a couple who could help her feel comfortable and build her trust.  Something has scared this dog at sometime in her life and she needs to know that the world is a safe place.  She's a sweet and wonderful girl....very mellow and would make a perfect companion for seniors too.  But she's an athletic girl and is happy to go on long walks.  She's fully vaccinated and recently spayed and is ready to go home.

7/4/08 Anderson Valley Hello I am Daphne a Black Lab mix.  I am spayed and ready to go home.  Well, I did go home one time for a week, but to tell you the truth I did not like the resident dog. I thought when I got adopted I would be the main canine squeeze in the family imagine my shock when another dog greeted me.  So let me be clear, I want all your love. In return I will be your faithful companion. I like to take walks, am house trained and like to be in my crate. I live in the Ukiah Shelter just 2 hours north of the Bay Area.  To find out more about adopting me email sage at mountais@co.mendocino.ca.us

Hello I am Lilly. I am a year old spay female Black Lab mix. For many many month I lived in the Ukiah Shelter. I nearly went crazy, then a kind rescue group took me under their wing and brought me to a foster home. Where I got to run, play with other canines and be a dog! I have a personal trainer now who says, "Lilly loves people and other dogs, she lives to sniff things. Lilly is very, very loving. With her high energy she needs and active, active family." To meet Lilly please call Cheryl at 707-895-3785 or email ccs@saber.net. Lilly can come to Santa Rosa on a Saturday to meet prospective adopters. WHISKEY  NEUTERED YELLOW MALE 2 YEARS OLD 65 LBS.      PUREBRED This beautiful boy is Whiskey, a sweet 2 year old neutered yellow male.  Whiskey is a 65-pound purebred AKC Lab from the Olive Hill Kennel near Sacramento.  He comes from a long line of trained field dogs.  Whiskey is very sweet, gentle, and energetic, he LOVES to play fetch and will play as long as someone wants to throw a ball.  He rides well in the car, is housebroken and trained with all the basic commands (heel, sit, stay, come). He does pull on the leash, so a basic training class like Sirius would be great for him.  Whiskey is fine in the yard, sleeps in his crate indoors, and he needs an active family to be part of.  Whiskey is not a barker and is not aggressive, he got along well with the five year old lab and eight year old girl that he went for a walk with on Sunday. Given his gentle nature and bouncy energy, we believe he will be great with kids over five years old.  He has just been neutered (everyone at the vet loved him), is current on his shots, and has no known health problems. He has never been given treats so he does not beg for food while we are eating.  We bought Whiskey two months ago, and we are first time dog owners.  Our son is leaving for college and my wife and I are both out of the home all day.  We feel bad leaving him home alone for most of the day and not having the time to play with him and walk him every day.  Whiskey needs a home with a large yard, a place where he can be inside and part of a family who is willing to spend a lot of time with him.  If interested, please call Janet (408) 859-7925. Tell them Lab Rescue sent you. 6/26/08

6/26/08 Carrie has an adoption pending

CARRIE 1 1/2-2 year old spayed yellow female    55 lbs Carrie is a super sweet girl with a GREAT smile.  We rescued Carrie from the Bakersfield shelter and she      was sooooooooooo very happy to be rescued.  The gal who picked her up was covered with kisses and Carrie happily jumped into her car.  She rides beautifully in cars, by the way, settling right in and enjoying the ride.  When she was taken to a vet clinic to be  spayed, she really tore the heart out of her rescuer....just looked at her as if to say, "Are you SURE you want to leave me here?"  But her spay went well and she now has all her shots.  She was a favorite at the vet clinic too.  Then it was time for her to make her way to Monterey, where you can come adopt her.  She rode with a big chocolate male lab on the 4 hour ride to Monterey and they got along famously.  She knows sit and takes treats gently.  She pulls on a leash, but settles down after the initial excitement.  She will jump on you to get attention, but understands that she's not supposed to.  Carrie is a very loving girl and just wants to be snuggled.  She gives lots of kisses.  She is an athletic girl and would make a great hiking or jogging partner.  She has lots of energy but settles nicely and is not hyper. She is great with other dogs and would be fine with children (though she will jump up on them and this wouldn't be good for very young kids).  She was very interested in a cat that she saw where she is being boarded and we suspect she will chase cats.  For more information on sweet Carrie,  please call Judy @ (831) 622-0577.

The overwhelming majority of dogs sold on internet sites, at pets stores in malls and in many newspaper ads come from puppy mills. Thousands of puppymills exist throughout the U.S. keeping their dogs in shocking conditions. Your purchase of a puppy over the internet helps keep them in business abusing animals.

Hello we are Betsy Ross (left) and Abigail Adams. (right)  We are 1 and 1/2 year old spayed female purebred Chocolate Labs. We are sisters. We are easy going, house trained and have lived with children. We like other dogs and are well adjusted, easy going Labs.  Our family moved and could not take us, so we are now living in the Ukiah shelter. We do understand that we may have to be adopted separately, but if someone could open their heart and home to both of us that would be so wonderful. Please consider coming to meet us by calling our friend sage at 707-467-6453 or email her at mountais@co,mendocino.ca.us.  Tell them Lab Rescue sent you. 12/24/06

"SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship - ethnicity unimportant.
I'm a very good girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Call (916) 875-5232
and ask for Lola I'll be waiting . "

To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - nose height.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The
other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw
print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it
becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing
in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help
because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry
about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to
ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when
they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other
stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that
sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end
to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by
some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not
necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw
under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the
same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years
--canine or feline attendance is not mandatory. The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets

    1. They live here. You don 't.
    2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(That's why they call it "fur"niture.)
    3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
    4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who
is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

    1. Eat less
    2. Don't ask for money all the time
    3 Are easier to train
    4. Usually come when called
    5. Never drive your car
    6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
    7. Don't smoke or drink
    8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions
    9. Don't wear your clothes
    10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and
    11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children
