This year marks GGLRR’s 25th anniversary of helping unwanted Labs find loving homes, so come help us celebrate this milestone at our special event! We thought it would be fun to have a reunion of some of the many Labs we’ve placed and the people who have helped save them through volunteering, adoption, and financial support.
The San Francisco-based event will start with a walk-a-thon to help raise money in order to rescue more Labs and continue another 25-years of serving the Bay Area. Get your sponsors now since fabulous prizes have been donated for those who raise the most!. After the walk, it’s fun time at dog-friendly Crissy Field beach where the dogs can play off-leash and people can visit while sharing Happy Ending stories about rescued Labs.
There will be GGLRR logo merchandise for sale, and you don't want to miss being part of GGLRR's group photo at 3pm (which will be featured on our website) on the beach with our namesake Golden Gate bridge to commemorate the celebration. We're expecting about 100 people and 60 Labs based on registrations thus far so don't miss this special event! Please join us with or without your Labs (depending on how he/she would do in a large group), and meet your fellow Lab Rescue supporters.
We will email registered participants final logistics and maps the week before the 6/18 event. There is plenty of parking at Golden Gate Park's Crissy Field along with restrooms and refreshments available at the park. Walk-a-thon participants should sign-in between 1-2pm at East Beach for fundraising participation gifts and prizes, then walk the well-marked promenade trail shown in the photo and map to the Golden Gate Bridge (about 2 miles round trip). The group photo will take place at 3pm on the beach near the Bridge turn-around end point. We plan to walk rain or shine (the Labs won't care) so bring a jacket since San Francisco might be windy, wet or foggy that day.
Thank you to the businesses who donated fabulous prizes for our top fundraisers!
Wow, what a memorable day! The feedback has been very positive and we’re thinking about making the walk-a-thon an annual gathering event! We had about 75 people and their 60 Labs join us on June 18th for GGLRR's 25th anniversary celebration. It was absolutely amazing seeing so many "happy ending" stories all in one place. These previously unwanted Labs are now looking so happy, healthy and obviously well-loved in their forever homes. What a great testimony to Lab Rescue efforts!
The Labs had a great time playing together on the grass and the beach. The people seemed to enjoyed it just as much getting to connect again with the GGLRR volunteers who helped match them with their beloved companions. And you should have seen how well-behaved all these Labs were as we all gathered together for group photo with our Golden Gate namesake in the background (shrouded by typical San Francisco summer fog). See photos of the event from walk-a-thon sign-in to the reunion gathering and the historic group photo (also can click on group photo above and then zoom in for high-resolution version). Special thanks to our fabulous photographer Nikki Weidner who does so much to help animal rescue. Others have been sharing more photos so please send in your links or photos too!
Many thanks to all who participated and helped raise funds, and the businesses who donated the fabulous prizes! Congratulations to our top 3 fundraizing prize winners: Cathy McKissack, Mary Gumlia / Paul Teschner, and James Wong. It's not too late to make a 25th Anniversary donation if you missed sponsoring a walker.
