Bella: 10.5 year female yellow Lab 65 lbs spayed

Background: Bella was surrendered to the local shelter because her family did not have the time or energy to care for her any longer. The shelter said she seems younger than her age. She seems very sweet, just a high energy dog. She barked at the other dogs and seemed super stressed, which is not uncommon for a dog coming from a home environment into a shelter.

What Bella's owner says: We have had Bella since she was a puppy. She is very happy around people but barks at dogs, especially the large ones. She has not lived with children or other pets. She is energetic, social and friendly with people. Bella is home alone 8-10 hours a day. She is mostly an inside dog and sleeps in her crate or dog bed at night. She doesn't really play with dog toys (may be due to being alone for so many hours and not given the opportunity.)

What Bella's foster says: We have had Bella for a few weeks. She is a very sweet, well-behaved dog with a very mellow demeanor. We have been taking her on long walks daily. She loves the walks and has a lot of energy. When we see other dogs she will bark so we cross the street. We have not seen any actual aggression from her. She likes to wake us up at 6AM for breakfast and lets us know!

What Bella's Rescue Rep says: Bella is a good dog with a sweet manner. She is happiest when she's around people. She does bark and react whenever she sees a dog so her new owners will need to work with a trainer. She is not a dog that should go to dog parks. Since Bella has not been taken out for walks, she could use some leash manners as she pulls but is handleable. Bella wants to please and will be easy to train with consistent follow through by her new owner. She loves treats and and knows a few cute tricks like sit, down, shake and stay. Lab Rescue is looking for a home where someone will be around a good part of the day to be her leader, yet she can still be the queen of the household! Bella is comfortable being an only dog so no dogs or cats in the home please. She is super sweet and looking to spend her senior years with people who will give her consistent walks, belly rubs and lots of TLC that she so deserves.

Medical: Bella is healthy, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative.

Bella is located in: San Mateo.

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
