Bo: 2-year-old male black Lab mix 65 pounds, neutered

Background: Bo’s current owners found him wandering near a rail yard on the way home from work one cold and rainy morning. They had Bo scanned for a microchip and contacted the registered owner who stated that she no longer wanted the dog and to just take him to the shelter. They brought Bo home, got him vet care, and Bo has been living with them, their 7 year old yellow lab and 3 year old cat. These wonderful Good Samaritans contacted Lab Rescue to help find Bo a forever home as their demanding jobs do not allow them the time to provide the exercise and attention a young energetic dog like Bo needs.

What Bo’s Owner says: My wife and I are both First Responders. She is a firefighter and I am a paramedic. Our jobs are too demanding, and we work very erratic schedules, and it prevents us from being able to give Bo the attention and consistency he desperately needs. Over time, as Bo became more comfortable with our house, we started coming home to find things chewed up or he would jump our side yard fence leading to our backyard, and even escaped out of the backyard by squeezing between a swinging gate. But every time he got out of the back yard, I would come home to find him lying on the front porch by the front door waiting for us.

We have found he has been very easy to train. Especially with treats. He loves playing ball with both kids and adults. He can be toy possessive around other dogs though, although we have seen a decline in this behavior over time. He is an incredibly intelligent dog, and needs to be in a home where he can have a daily routine, and has someone who is able to walk him every single day or play with him, because he is very high energy. I understand he is destructive because he gets frustrated and is unable to get that energy out. This is why we are looking for a forever home for Bo. He will without a doubt make a great companion for someone who enjoys the outdoors, doesn't mind having a dog in the car (he loves car rides), and someone who is willing to let him sleep on the bed next to them at night, and watch TV on the couch.

What Bo’s Rescue Rep says: Bo is a delightful dog! Full of energy and spirit, he will do great in an active home that can give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. He loves to play fetch! Bo will bring you great joy and snuggles. Bo would be fine in a home with older kids, his exuberance may be a bit much for younger children. Bo has done well living in a home with another dog and cat, however there have been some squabbles over food and toys, so he should either be an only pet, or live with an experienced owner who is willing to feed pets separately and keep toys picked up.

Medical Information: Bo is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

Bo is located in: Oakley

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
