Bosco: 6-year-old male chocolate Lab mix 70-lbs neutered

Background: Found on the streets of Stanislaus County, we met and evaluated this guy at the Modesto shelter when he came off of stray hold… and found him to be a great candidate for Lab Rescue.

What Bosco’s foster says: Bosco will be a great companion for some lucky adult! He loves people, and tries really hard to please. He just hasn’t had any training (until now), and has most likely been an outside-only dog. But he is coming along really quickly. A whole lotta fun and energy in this guy. Gets along with all people and other dogs. Loves affection. Takes treats fairly gently but quite eagerly. Needs an owner that is ready to handle his zest for life. Leash walking is going very well -- still haven’t tried in town yet, so not sure how he will do with lots of distractions. Will be fine in a home with another dog. But no cats! Nicely crate-trained -- sleeps through the night in his crate without a fuss. Not sure if he is house-broken but we are giving him increased freedom (off leash) inside and so far so good. Comes well when called and heels pretty well off-leash around the property. He knows “sit”, and will “come” quickly, usually, when called. Bosco likes to be with one of us most of the time, so he doesn’t usually wander off too far on our five acres of enclosed property. He doesn’t complain, even when we are out of the room for long periods of time. Cats are out of the question -- his prey drive towards cats can be controlled somewhat, but it is just too strong to be given up. Very strange, however, is that we have chickens, some of which are always out, and he has no interest in chasing them! Bosco is learning to play with toys (and shoes - haha), but he doesn't chew them! Don’t know about water yet, but I’m sure he would love it. His skin and coat are looking really good -- I've been using a leave-in skin and coat conditioner, and giving him fish oil. Bosco has that sweet, loving personality, a great smile, and a really waggy tail! Bosco might be good with kids. He is actually pretty calm and gentle if there are no cats around.

What Bosco’s Rescue Rep says: A whole lotta fun and energy in this guy. Gets along with all people and other dogs. Loves affection. Takes treats fairly gently but quite eagerly. Needs an adopter that is ready to handle his zest for life. Will be fine in a home with another dog. Chickens and horse okay too. But no cats -- no matter how dog-savvy your cat is.

Medical: Bosco is in great health. Current on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Just got neutered.

Bosco is currently located in: Livermore.

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
