Buddy: 7 - 8 year old male black Lab mix 63 lbs

Are you ready for some fun? Buddy wants to play!

Background: Buddy was found as a stray in the Calaveras / Tuolumne county area. When no owner could be found, the shelter contacted GGLRR to help find this great dog a new forever home. Buddy is sweet and smart and we think he’s mixed with a herding dog breed. Buddy would love to find a new forever home that would enjoy playing games with him that exercise both his body and his mind.

What Buddy’s foster says: Buddy has good energy and enjoys his walks. He doesn’t pull at all but he also doesn’t want to walk alongside me - he wants to walk on one side then in front then on the other side. On walks he only shows curiosity when he sees other dogs, no aggression. He seems a bit lonely and eager to meet other dogs, we think he may have been part of a pack and is missing his canine companions. We think he would enjoy doing agility courses and have set up a jump in our backyard for him. He’s had no accidents or issues in the house. He wants to be near us when we are home but has done fine being left at home alone for a couple hours. Buddy is a very dedicated and loyal dog. He will follow you to the ends of the earth and back again. He comes when called, knows “sit” and “down” and will lie down for us to dry off his wet paws. We have not yet introduced him to other dogs but will try to do so in the next couple of days. He gets excited when he sees kitties. He’s fine with our chickens.

What Buddy’s Rescue Rep says: It’s clear that someone has spent time working with Buddy – he knows basic commands and a few tricks. Buddy would be great for a home that doesn’t need a “quintessential Lab”, and who would enjoy the “best of both worlds” that a mixed heritage can bring. Buddy isn’t food crazy like your typical Lab, and he likes getting attention and praise. Buddy loves to get belly rubs. Buddy will vocalize (not barking) at times (we think he’s talking) so it’s good for him to be in a home that doesn’t mind an expressive dog.

Medical Information: Microchipped, current on shots, and heartworm negative. Will be neutered soon.

Buddy is located in: Concord

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
