Dante: 1-year-old male yellow Lab 70 pounds neutered

Background: Purchased in November by a family that did not know what they were getting themselves into. Dante jumped all over the young kids in the family, and the parents did not have the time or experience to give him the exercise and guidance he needed.

What Dante’s foster says: Dante is the sweetest pup you'll ever meet - a total gentle giant. He loves to be near his people and will follow you from room to room, settling right beside you. He's eager to meet other dogs (his favorite place is the dog park) and he's polite with dogs of all sizes (very gentle with the smaller and older pups). Even when other dogs bark at him, he doesn't bark back and just gives them their space. Outdoors, he's got a lot of energy and would be really happy in a home with lots of land or a yard to run around and explore. After ample exercise, he's happy to hang out calmly indoors with you. He'd also really love another dog in the home to be friends with. His on-leash skills have shown a lot of improvement now that he's getting sufficient exercise and play time, but he would benefit from some patient leash training to get him more calm on-leash.

What Dante’s Rescue Rep says: “Please place your seats in their upright position, stow your tray tables, and buckle your seat belts securely. Cause this is going to be a fun and wild ride.” Very soft mouth. Knows “sit” -- that’s it. His biggest issue is his tendency to jump upon you and “grab” you with his paws. He also has zero manners on leash. One big doofus. Did fabulous at the dog park; deferential to other (older) dogs. Spent most of his day alone (with his prior family) in the back yard; went into a crate indoors at night. Dante will need a strong handler wo is prepared for a dog with few manners. Not for a family with small children. Would love to join a savvy family with an existing more mature dog.

Medical Information: In fine health. Vet thinks he might be two-years-old. Taking antibiotics for some (harness?) wounds around his snout. Getting some ear drops for some ear itchiness. Dante is current on Rabies and distemper vax, heartworm negative, and neutered. He will soon be microchipped.

Dante is located in: San Francisco.

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
