Hank: ~4-5 year-old male black Lab mix 80 pounds neutered

Lab Rescue so a posting on Facebook and reached out to help Hank; this was the posting:

Hey fb friends, I’m in need of some help! Last night before closing the restaurant, a black Labrador retriever came walking up. He was the sweetest dog ever. He just was loving on us. He had on a collar with no name tag and a pair of goggles around his neck. I fed him some dog food I keep in my car for homeless people, and gave him a blanket to lay on. The night before, a coworker of mine had seen the dog and found the owner. He said that it was a homeless man living out of his car near the marina. So it took some time but we walked down and found this man in his trailer. We said “we have your dog, he’s been out for about an hour now”, at this point, it’s 7:30 pm in Bodega Bay, IT WAS COLD. & this guy said “oh darn I thought I had him tied up” we waited for someone to come out of the trailer and finally a woman comes out, clearly intoxicated. She just kinda gave us this stare and I asked her “so what’s his name, he’s just so sweet” & she said “well, I know what he responds to sometimes.” I’m thinking WHAT?! But anyways the entire situation was awkward and she was clearly high. As me and my coworker were walking back I felt as if we had done the wrong thing by returning the dog. It was FREEZING, the dog was tied up outside?! And these people are homeless camping out on the side of the road. I said to my coworker, “give it twenty minutes and that dog will be back”. WHAT DO YOU KNOW, he came walking in the dog door 23 minutes later. We then decided that we weren’t going to bring him back; but we left them a note and waited for 2 weeks before giving him to GGLRR. We named him Hank, and he’s the sweetest thing ever. Our estimate is that he’s about 4-5 years old. But here’s our issue... Hank needs a forever home. I feel very strongly about wanting to find a place for this dog where he will be loved and properly taken care of. If you know of anyone who is looking for a sweet, obedient, fur baby please contact me!!! He is currently in the care of a coworker and we will do what we can but I need you help!!

We have Hank at a boarding facility we use:

Hank is an amazing dog. He loves all people and all dogs; one easy going guy. He knows shake, sit, no food issues and is very friendly. He is house trained, very obedient and just wants to be with people.

What Hank’s Rescue Rep says:

Hank is a great dog, could lose a few pounds and fits right in with no issues. We would love a home where he will be part of the pack, will continue his training. Hank should not be in a home with cats and if there is another dog in the home it would be best if it is a female. Hank will be fine with kids over 8 years old.

Medical Information: Neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Hank is located in: Petaluma.

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
