KELSO: 3 year-old Black Lab Mix Neutered 74 pounds

Background: Kelso was surrendered to the Ukiah shelter as his owner had to move and could not find a place that would take a large dog. Ukiah shelter reached out to GGLRR to see if we could take Kelso into our program and find him a great home

What Kelso’s foster mom says: Kelso is sweet, calm, and polite, he has a very gentle mouth. He's clever and wow, so handsome. He is 3 years old, 74 lbs, neutered, has had all his shots. I am working with him every day on training and he's making good progress. He learned "sit" yesterday, so proud of him! He's a very good listener, and so eager to please, learning to do things on command won't take him long, and he gets good results when training is consistent. Kelso never jumps up on people, he walks nicely on the leash, without pulling on it, and is now walking well on one side of me and not zigzagging. He rides well in the car. He is unimpressed by cats, and just ignores them. He's making great progress with crate training, spending more time in there on his own on the dog bed. Occasionally jumps up on the couch or a bed for a minute, but quickly gets back to the floor when I ask him too. The shelter folks all gave him rave reviews, said he was wonderful with the other dogs. He even came to the hair salon with me and sat quietly on his towel the whole time. He's quite strong, and hasn't learned to stay or heel yet, so he probably shouldn't be around elderly folks or young children until he's got better skills. He will respond best with consistent training and a good amount of exercise, but he's also a big fan of sleeping. Very mellow, sweet boy, he has a lovely, friendly temperament. He is a little shy when first meeting a new person, but quickly warms up to them.

What Kelso’s Rescue Rep says: Kelso is a great dog and seems that his first three years with his previous owner were good years. He seems to be a well adjusted dog and knows some commands. He is housetrained and the foster is working on crate training. He is a dog that will listen and seems to want to please the owner. Kelso is a very happy dog and is up for new things and always seems to be smiling! He needs a home that will get him plenty of exercise, get him more training and home that will make him part of their pack. He is great with other dogs and seems to ignore cats.

Medical Information: Kelso a very healthy dog. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, has taken regular flea and tick and heartworm medication and is microchipped.

Kelso is located in: Oakland

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
