Ryder: 10 year-old neutered male black Lab mix 60 lbs
NEED FOSTER HOME! We are looking for a new foster home for Ryder as his current foster’s schedule has changed. Other dogs ok, no cats. Prefer someone around during the day. Contact Rescue Rep Katy (listed below) if you can help.

What Ryder's owner says: Ryder is a very friendly Labrador Retriever/German Shepherd mix, 10 year old boy. He is neutered and up to date on all his shots. He is being re homed due to no fault of his own, his previous owner has health issues and is no longer able to walk or care for him. He is good with small children and other dogs, however he has never been socialized with cats and will chase them. He loves going for walks and playing with toys that have a squeaker. He also likes to play catch and likes to swim too. Most of all, he loves spending time near his humans. He knows a trick or two, he will shake and roll over and play dead if you say bang bang. Ryder is very gentle and loving, but still a very active, goofy boy. He is house trained and has perfect manners, unless you leave any food out. He will eat human food if he gets the opportunity. Ryder would make a very loyal and loving companion to the lucky family that gets to adopt him.

What Ryder's foster says: Ryder is a sweet boy who loves hanging out with his people. He is house trained and knows basic commands such as sit and lie down. He knows his name very well and comes when called. He does well on leash even though he doesn’t have a lot of experience, and also does well off leash in a controlled environment as he responds so well to his name. He really loves his squeaky toys and playing fetch, and has a ton of energy for a 10 year old. He chases squirrels and will run after kitties when he sees them. On walks, he seems uninterested in other dogs beyond a simple curiosity and has never shown any aggression on or off leash. He would do well in a home where someone can spend a lot of time with him and can match his energy level. He is great around kids and other dogs. My kids adore him! He's very gentle and quiet throughout the day, plays some with our other dogs but also just sleeps!

What Ryder's Rescue Rep says: This sweet boy is a little reserved at first when meeting new people, but you quickly become his new best friend if you play fetch with his squeaky ball. Ryder will make a happy and loving companion for a home that has the time to give him some attention and TLC that he wasn't getting in his prior owner’s home. Ryder is a smart dog and has more energy than you might guess for his age. His smaller size makes him an easy walking companion. Ryder is a happy dog who just likes to hang with his humans.

Medical Information: Ryder is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is being treated for some ear, eye, and skin issues which are clearing up nicely. He has a condition called dry eye and will need ongoing eye meds.

Ryder is located in: Concord

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
