Teddy: 2-year-old male chocolate Lab mix 72 pounds, neutered

Background: Teddy is a 2 year old neutered male Chocolate Lab/Mix (likely Golden Retriever) with beautiful eyes and coloring and is stunning to see in person. Sadly Teddy’s family lost their housing and made the difficult decision to surrender him along with his 2 Labrador Retriever buddies to a local shelter. Teddy’s world as he knew it was gone in the blink of an eye. GGLRR was able to help Teddy as an experienced foster family stepped up to help.

What Teddy’s Foster says: Teddy didn’t get out much in his previous home so he didn’t know what great things the world had to offer. In new situations, he can be a bit unsure of what is expected of him and was stressed for his first few days with his foster family. However, Teddy has now been with his foster family for almost a week and has settled in well. Teddy is now crate trained, can sit, and shake. He has mastered the art of walking on a leash for walks around the park and would likely make a good hiking companion. He also has a great alarm bark and will let you know when he sees something he deems suspicious. He’s met several dogs on his walks and has done well with each of them, although proper introductions with each dog, 1:1 is best. He has a loving personality and wants to meet everyone he sees on his walks. He’s been good around other dogs and people; seems to really enjoy being around kids (8+ years) as well. He is easily corrected when told no. After settling in, we found that he’s food motivated so training him has been easy and he takes treats gently out of your hand. Teddy eats well and is currently on quality kibble along with raw veggies, fruit and treats. He loves playing with a ball or rope toy. Teddy has also done well with our 2 dog friendly cats. Teddy would do best with a family that has large dog experience and with kids 8+ years. He will need continued structure, leadership and training so he can grow into being a wonderful dog he is meant to be.

What Teddy’s Rescue Rep says: Teddy has a gorgeous shaggy coat complete with blond highlights. He's a big sweetie, wonderful with people, looking to please, and eager to learn. He loves to play fetch and is very motivated by a tennis ball though he will also do a sit or down for a treat. Teddy is doing well living with the resident dog and cats in his foster home and meeting new dogs on walks though he can sometimes get a bit over-excited at first. Teddy has had a lot of change in his life recently and we’d love to see him go to a forever home with an experienced dog owner where someone is around a good part of the day and who can provide the leadership, training and structure that a young dog needs.

Medical Information: Teddy is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. He will be getting a heartworm test soon.

Teddy is located in: Fremont

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
