Hi Liz, I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. You had mentioned sending pictures of Xena and Buffy, here's one in the backyard. They are just the sweetest dogs ever and I love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. It was the absolute best Christmas present to wake up with them Christmas morning. Thank you.

KaneDecember 2011

Hi all.....just wanted to send Merry Christmas Greetings from Kane.....who had his picture taken with Santa on Saturday. His 'wish list' includes Kong toys, ziggys and lots of doggy treats. Actually when thinking about what he might want for Christmas, we were reminded of that fact that this time last year his only wish was for a 'forever home'. We are thrilled beyond measure that we found each other, and that we can provide that for him. He is absolutely perfect (well, not perfect...we did discover his mischievous side....he loves to steal socks and dishtowels! Not sure if it's the stealing or the chasing that he prefers :) We love him more and more every day, and realize how fortunate we were to have decided to look at Golden Gate Lab Rescue at the exact time that he was listed.

I still read the listings and it breaks my heart that so many wonderful dogs are still looking for homes. I wish we could take them all! We really appreciate the work that you do, and I continue to tell anyone and everyone looking for a dog what a great experience we have had with a rescue dog. Our hope for you all is that the number of dogs needing a home declines in 2012. In the meantime though, we did want to express our gratitude, tell you how much we love Kane, and wish you and your families (real and furry) happy holidays.

Julie Morse (& family)

A year ago today we met Geri in Los Gatos so we could adopt Roxy. Thank you so much for letting us be her forever home. She loves to play fetch, is a great listener, and has been a joyful addition to our family.

I have attached a few pictures of her in the yard playing today with her new chew toy.

Happy Holidays!

I am writing to let you know how wonderful my dog is! I adopted Enzo (you knew him as La-La) back in April and he was a spazzy, aggressive bundle of fuzz. You set us up with a fantastic trainer who gave us tools to shape him into the loveable and amazing pup he is today - you wouldn't recognize him! On this card, he is the boy on the right. My old man from the blind school is on the left, Newley. They bring phenomenal joy to our whole family and you and GGLRR will always be in our hearts. Thank you for your help in completing our family. Always, Annette Seabury

So it has been a year since my wife and I adopted Meli(she was briefly named Elle) from your rep in Seaside California – We could not believe that anyone could abuse such a sweet little girl. She was 27lbs when we got her, unsure, skittish and she seemed sad that she had been separated from her litter. Within weeks her personality began to show, she gained weight and became a very happy little girl. Now at 45lbs(ideal says our vet). We now have a spoiled monster on our hands! She is still the sweetest little lab I have ever seen, gentle, playful and never sad. Attached photo is after a big day at the beach – A very tired but happy dog,she is like a little kid! Thank you for doing what you do; we are truly blessed with our little Meli.

Oso (Bear) is doing great! We just got back from Mendocino (Stevenswood Inn is dog friendly, BTW) and he is a tired but happy boy. He loves his hikes at Smilin Dogs, and comes in to the office to see his friends Bella and Murphy. He and baby Rory have bonded (see pix) and we are a tight little pack.

Thank you Lab Rescue for my wonderful best friend. Pretty Girl. Adopting a senior dog from you after the devastating and unexpected loss of my 2 labs was a savior for myself. I would encourage anybody looking for a loving and fun companion to seek out Lab Rescue and think "Senior dog."

It is really wonderful having Boo Boo with us. She is a very happy dog, obeys all requests and loves it here! In the morning she gives small nudges to me and then goes into a vigorous roll and wiggle on her back complete with adorable sounds which have earned her the morning nickname "Snarfalita." We have a terrific time taking walks at the Marina or on Mt. Wanda or just in the neighborhood. She is wonderful with our cats and all people. I can't believe I get to have her in my life. Thank you so much!

BobNovember 2011

Just a quick note to share a picture and tell you how great Bob is doing since we adopted him in January. He has become a true member of our family and we love him so much. Bob and I walk everyday and our newest adventure is bike riding while he trots along side me. The picture shows the "walkydog" we bought that keeps Bob safely tethered to my bike. He took to it like a duck to water and loves going for jaunts around our neighborhood and on trails. I really wanted a dog that was my best friend and I got that with Bob. He follows me around the house, goes for rides in the car, watches TV in bed with me and keeps me active with our walks and bike rides. He and our other dog (12lb Benny) have forged a great friendship. Benny is the boss and Bob adores him and doesn't like to let him out of his sight for long. Bob is very mindful of Benny size and we have never had a problem with him being too rough.

Sedum and I are having a wonderful time with each other. She has blossomed into quite a girl; not the timid girl I brought home. All the neighbors think she is wonderful also. She had a little trouble riding in the car when I would stop to shop. She would howl as I left the car and while she could see me walking away. She has just about over come this as she now knows that I return. Don't know if she had been left in a car or it was a new venture that she had not done before.

Sedum and my Mom's dog Annie get along well and enjoy racing each other around Annie's yard.

JacksonNovember 2011

Jackson (Rosco) has become such a special part of our family. We brought him home in August and had a few adjustment issues in the beginning, but we were lucky enough to find a wonderful trainer who helped us to give him the structure and confidence that he needed to settle in to his new life with us. We also really appreciated the support of GGLRR during that period. All of the effort that we put into working with Jackson has been rewarded..both for Jackson and for us! He is such a sweet, quirky, loving, smart boy that has brought so much love and joy to us. We know that we have brought the same to him!! He makes us smile every day when he sees us as his whole body shakes with excitement. We've joked that we should have named him "Thumper" for his loud, thumping, happy tail. His face is so adorable...he just melts our heart sometimes. He always wants to be wherever we are and will curl himself into the tiniest ball just so he can lay under our feet when we are sitting on the couch at night. He loves his daily walks (he has worked hard to become a good walker!) and playing ball. We recently took him up to the mountains and he absolutely loved it. We're excited to take him up to see the snow this winter! It is always fun to watch him when he experiences something new. We are so happy that when we decided to bring a new lab into our lives that we turned to GGLRR. Our lives just wouldn't be the same without our fabulous Jackson!!!

EnzoNovember 2011

We picked up Enzo in January 2011. We have previously adopted from the GGLR 2 labs in the past and wanted to adopt a companion for our current lab Holly and let’s face it…a companion for us too! We lost our dear Buddy 2 years ago and were finally ready to open our heart and home again. When we decided to adopt Enzo, we knew he came to us with some issues as his previous environment was…not ideal. What we did not know was the brevity of the situation and what we were about to experience.

It took months of daily interactions before Enzo would even come out of a room. We were considered the enemy and his intense fear of us was almost more than we could handle. He cowered in the corner and did everything to make himself invisible. Our friends were shocked to see such horror. This dog was so broken in the worst way, I was not certain we were equipped emotionally to get him through this. It took months and months before he would even begin to trust in us that we were not going to harm him. Meals, sleep time and personal attention all had to be done in a private room. Finally, after 8 months and a great deal of patience, love and commitment, Enzo will eat in the kitchen with Holly, his tail wags endlessly and he even gives and receives hugs and kissesJ He walks well on a leash and gets along with all other dogs. We are thrilled and celebrate every milestone he makes and give more and more love to him. He now plays in the house with Holly (I can tell this by the amount of toys strewn about when I get home from workJ) and he has begun to roam freely in our backyard.

Not every story is a picture perfect happy ending with dogs frolicking and playing in the sunny green fields… ours is happy in that Enzo knows that nobody will ever abuse him again and that we are patient and will continue to give him many hugs and kisses and let him take his time to come around. I know Enzo isn’t the only dog ever needing adopted that has emotional issues, but I do hope other families take the chance we did because the reward has been incredible. We cannot change the world of dog abuse and neglect by our one adoption, but we just changed the world for Enzo.

Jim and Stephanie Gentz, Holly and Enzo too!

My daughter took this photo of us recently while sitting on my deck. We think it says just about everything anyone would want to know about our relationship. When I had to call the Vet to let my dear Jude go (he was a beautiful Yellow Lab/Greyhound mix) I thought I would never find a dog to really replace him and I was told that I should have waited longer to get another dog (about 6 weeks) but I felt lost without my companion so contacted Labl/Ret. Rescue, Inc. It seems that Chloe, aged approx 6 years, was picked for me so perhaps Jude had a hand in that. I certainly thank all members of Golden Gate Lab/Resscue for their efforts on my behalf and think Chloe would add her 'woof to that as she is now sleek and shiny.

zaraNovember 2011

Its hard to believe its only been a little over two months since little 9-pound Zara came home with us – we can’t remember what life was like without her! Zara is now a very head-strong but fantastic 30-pound, 4 month old puppy! She makes us laugh everyday with her antics - chasing her tail in circles, wimpering because our cats don’t want to play with her, doing the “crazy puppy run” around the yard, and of course her very loud snoring – there is never a dull moment.

Zara is doing great in puppy training and can sit, stay, lay down, heel on the leash and is working very hard on not jumping on people she meets. She also LOVES going to puppy socials to play with other puppies.

Now that Zara is fully vaccinated, we take here everywhere. We just returned from a trip to Lake Tahoe where she got her first experience with water. While she would only go in up to her chest, she enjoyed splashing around and playing with the other dogs. We're sure its only a matter of time before she is a full-fledged swimmer.

We talk often about how lucky we are that Liz answered our phone call about Zara during the GGLRR anniversary walk – it was definitely fate that brought us together and we are truly thankful that we have Zara in our life now and to GGLRR for all the work they do. We get compliments all the time on what a great personality Zara has and how lucky she is to have us for a family, but really, we think we’re the lucky ones!

Things are going well....as well as they can with a 5+ month old lab! Very active, very chewy as you can imagine. Jake has about doubled in size since we first met...he is certainly going to be a giant. He will be neutered the middle of this month and I'm told he should be kept calm and quiet for two weeks! Sure, I responded. They laughed and said that's how everyone responds. I have attached a picture. He has the most expressive face imaginable and is very, very smart. He's doing great with "sit" and "stay," working on "come" and "shake." He is starting to love the Carmel beach and is delighted with all other dogs, regardless of whether that delight is reciprocated (by dog or dog's person). He did very well with all our summer visitors, including a three year old that looked at him eye-to-eye. He has a good heart and a very active body!

maniNovember 2011

Since March, my life has been blessed by the presence of a beautiful silky black lab, then known as Suzie but soon renamed Maní ("peanut" in Spanish). I adopted Maní as a seven-month-old adolescent puppy, looking for a companion that would both keep me company while I practiced and composed from my home as a working musician but who would also get me out of the house for her walks... The change in my life has been indescribable and every day, I'm newly delighted by her antics. She's flowered into a beautifully-behaved dog with a real sense of humor, and is both affectionate and social with dogs, cats, and humans alike. She's proven to be quite a foodie, loving apples, arugula, and heirloom tomatoes, and is also quietly protective of my home. When I practice on my piano, Maní likes to lay her head on top of my feet as I pedal away, something that makes me laugh to no end. I know that when she is a little older, I will be adopting another lab from GGLR!

BellaNovember 2011

Isabel, now Bella, has adjusted very well and we just love her! I know labs are characteristically mellow and tolerant, but what she puts up with from our toddler is beyond impressive. She "gives rides" and gets toys rolled over her on a daily basis and doesn't even flinch. She just about wiggles right out of her skin in anticipation for her long morning walk and greeting all her new doggie friends, and she's a neighborhood favorite with the humans. She's been camping and hiking with us, and was a champ. Thank you Liz for finding us a perfect match!

sophieNovember 2011

Sophie joined our family in March, 2011, a little eight-week-old puppy from Angel's litter. She is the first dog we have ever owned, and we couldn't have asked for a sweeter, smarter, more loving dog! Sophie is part Labrador and part McNab Border Collie, and we really see a bit of both in her. She loves three things the most: people, other dogs, and a shady patch of grass, and not necessarily in that order!

Our whole family (Mom, Dad, two sisters and Sophie) attended beginner and intermediate traning classes, which have been a great education for our family. Sophie really enjoys the challenges of training, and we are having a lot of fun learning together! Sophie has a lot of puppy energy. She loves chasing balls and going for long walks, and especially enjoys chasing water from the hose and bubbles blown by her two "big sisters." We are very thankful to GGLRR for the opportunity to adopt such a great dog!

Hi, Lab Lovers

Hard to believe that Rufus' 8th birthday is fast approaching. Rufus has officially been a senior dog for 2 years but he still looks and acts like a big pup. Attached is a picture from his first day home with me and another of Rufus now, on the brown bed hanging out with his new housemates, Sheila (yellow lab) & Lulu (black pup). Every night before going to bed, I still stroke Rufus' ears and tell him what a wonderful lab he is. Thanks GGRLL for giving me the best friend ever.

Warm Regards,

Julie

KobeNovember 2011

On a hike with his GGLRR foster mom, recently rescued Kobe was struck in the face by a common native resident - a rattlesnake.

Kobe was rushed to the vet and provided with immediate, lifesaving treatment including traditional anti-venom injection and a plasma transfusion. It was a long, painful ordeal but thanks to the generosity of GGLRR doners, Kobe received the full course of treatments he needed to make an amazing recovery.

And the good news doesn't stop there -- Kobe also found his loving forever home last month!

"Kobe is a beautiful, strong young fella, and is learning more each day," write new owners, Peter and Marie.

"Thanks to all who donated to help 'rattler', as he is a very special boy!"

During recovery, one of Kobe's favorite toys was reported to be a squeaky stuffed rattlesnake - let's hope he sticks to the fake ones in the future!

Congratulations Kobe, Peter and Marie -- plus special thanks to the many hands and hearts who touched Kobe's life during his incredible rescue journey.

HenrySeptember 2011

Henry joined our family in May, 2011 a little over 3 months ago. He is the most amazing, special dog. Not only is he very handsome, but loving, gentle and gets along with everybody...people and dogs. Every person that meets Henry comments on how beautiful he is. We are so lucky to have him and I think it's mutual. He talks to us with special grunts and growls, gives lots kisses and sometimes thinks he is a lapdog as he gets half his body up in our laps. He is a 90 pound dog! Every morning he gets his 2 mile walk on the trails off leash and never gets out of our sight. Greets every dog he meets with a wagging tail. Later in the day we always make time for some ball playing. He loves to fetch the ball and brings it back and drops it in to my hand. He can do that game for hours. I can't say enough good things about Henry. He settled right in to his "Forever Home" and I truly believe whatever journey he was on he was meant to end up here with us. We are so grateful to you Liz for getting him out of the shelter and to Wendy and family to have fostered him so beautifully. Thank goodness for GGLRR and all that you do. With joy and gratitude, Barbara & Pete

Dawson at LakeSeptember 2011

Thank you all so much for finding our family the "perfect" dog!!! Dawson is everything we were looking for in a dog. He is so sweet and lovable. He is good in the house alone as well as potty trained. He has even won over my 12 year old husky mix in just two weeks. He got my old dog off the couch and now they play together in the backyard. We really needed this fresh young adult dog to come into our lives. My family has been through a lot of loss this year and we were desperate for some new life in our house. Dawson had a loving daddy who just didn't have time for him. We needed him as much as he needed us. His new life includes 2 mile runs in the morning, trips to the dog park, and weekends at the cabin! The picture is him jumping into the lake after a ball. He has brought the smile back on our faces. The way he bounces through the house with a toy in his mouth. Or how he cuddles with you after a hard day. We didn't rescue him, he rescued us! Thanks again. Pam

PiperAugust 2011

Dear GGLRR, I am writing to you about Piper, a 6 year old lovely, blocky headed, English girl who came to us for fostering in March. Piper was very sick and would have died without GGLRR's help. She had heartworm, ear infections, an untreated wound, skin allergies, her hair was coming out by the handful, and her bones were sticking out. Piper has an amazing spirit- despite her illnesses, she was basically a sweet, optimistic dog who just wanted to be loved and cared for. GGLRR saw to it that she got the vet care that she needed. Over the the last 5 months Piper has been healing beautifully, getting her energy back, and learning how to play with toys. During that time my lab Teddy and I have been falling in love with her, and we adopted her. They are getting to be true partners in crime! Teddy is on the sweet and timid side, Piper is sweet, smart and bossy, they have a blast, as do I. Piper has discovered swimming! So thanks so much to all in GGLRR, there were times I needed advice and when I asked for help, I got lots of support and information. I will be ready for another foster in a month or two, Piper and Teddy will be fabulous foster siblings for another lab in need. I am attaching a photos. I am truly delighted to be part of such a great organization, hugs and many blessings to all, Janet

NickiAugust 2011

For years our 12 year old daughter had been asking for a dog, but my wife was reluctant because she has never had a pet. We have many friends who have dogs, and she enjoyed visiting with them. However, she never understood how dog owners become so attached to their pets. Well, after reading about Nicki through GGLRR, and visiting her and the foster family, we took the plunge. It really helped that the foster family could tell us what Nicki was like. It also helped that Nicki was the right dog for our family. It was a difficult transition for us for the first two weeks, but after a month everything was different. Nicki is now truly a part of our family, and my wife has come to realize how attached you can become to an incredible dog.

Mattie & GemmaJune 2011

Liz, Thank you so much for helping us find Mattie, who we adopted on June 11th. She is a beautiful, smart, loving, eager-to-please, energetic daredevil . . . and since she's just five months old, will be keeping us on our toes for awhile. She's adjusting to our household very well, and already feels like a member of the family. Our 20-month-old lab, Gemma (who we adopted from GGLRR in Dec. 2009), is thrilled to have a little sister to play with. Mattie and Gemma have already become good friends and play together for hours every day.

We are so blessed to have received not one, but two wonderful companions from GGLRR. Gemma has such a sweet spirit, and I call her my little hug bug, because she would love to be a lap dog. She has matured into a wonderfully behaved dog who listens well (even off leash), but is a high energy dog who wants lots of activity. A playmate like Mattie is just what Gemma needed!

Mattie is a wonderful addition to our family. We enjoy sharing our lives with two wonderful labs!

Janet & Tim

We fostered a couple of dogs for GGLRR then came Lulu.  Lulu wins the "best girl ever award".  She is affectionate, listens well, quiet and a world class fetch player.  We could not have asked for a  better sister for our lab Toby.   Lulu is a living testament to not only rescuing dogs but also to the joys of fostering and finding your perfect dog(even if you might not think you are looking-they find you!) Thank you for all you do.

Hello Judy

Well, what can we say, Hank fits in perfectly!  It was a month on Friday that we picked him up and he has come so far.  He cracks us up every day.

Hank is very comfortable being in the backyard while I am at work for 4-5 hours.  Initially he would try and dig out, but within a few days realized that I came home.  That was the first week and then he got over it.  At first he would not go outside for anything unless you went out first and walked far away from the door, now he goes out readily and relaxes and chases the squirrels in the morning.  He still has shown no interest in the pool.  On our walks he passes  by sprinklers and he avoids them to no end.....until this morning!!  When we came home and opened the gate, he was still leashed, our sprinklers were on.  We walked by and he leaned into them (it was 6:30am and already HOT!)  So I kept him leashed and did a circle and walked by again, this time he walked right on the lawn through the sprinklers - again he would avoid them to no end.  I then took his leash off and he ran over there and ran through the sprinklers and laid down in the center of the lawn, and I think he was smiling while he was cooling off.  I think he also realized that it feels good and he likes it! Thank goodness, with all the heat he has  been inside with me in air-conditioning, but now he can run and play on the lawn.

He is walking fairly well on a leash.  I take him in the morning and Mike takes him in the evening.  The first 15 minutes are tough with pulling so we start and stop a lot, then he settles in.  I have been trying to run with him, but only make it a few blocks before a squirrel runs across the street and there is no holding him back!! :)

He is a quick learner and eager to please.  The kids cannot wait to get up in the morning and see him and cuddle with him.  I do think that we waited for the right dog to come into our home.

Thank you Judy and thank you to Lab Rescue for all you\they do!!

Lisa, Mike, Ashley, Michael and Hank

Liz:

Thought you would like to see this photo of Miranda being walked by a friend with her dog Zoe.  Miranda is on the left; she kept up very well in a long walk with Zoe, an active six-year-old.

Best dog I've ever had (except of course for Butterscotch, my previous dog, who was a Lab mix).  My vet says she's in great shape, except for a minor thryoid deficiency, and I should get her teeth cleaned soon.

Can't make it to your 'walk-a-thon', but maybe I should consider a photo for your 2012 calendar -- I think Miranda is an outstanding example of a senior Lab.  As a friend of mine says, "female black Labs are the BEST!"

Best regards, and Miranda might say Woof! one of these days, very quiet dog, otherwise very much present.

Hi Liz--

Taffy (now 5 years old) originally was rescued by a family in Pueblo, Colorado. Four years ago, they had found Taffy and another Lab wandering around, hungry and alone.  When no one claimed Taffy at the local shelter, they adopted him.  Taffy was about a year old and had been treated poorly before they rescued him.  Taffy had four wonderful years with his new family and two other dogs. This winter, when his family was posted to Monterey, Taffy discovered he could escape their 6' fenced yard to visit the ranch behind the house.  Taffy thought the cattle might be in need of more exercise and loved to chase them. The rancher thought otherwise and threated to shoot him.  Reluctantly, Taffy's family contacted GGLR, knowing it was the best and safest option for Taffy's future.

Since moving to San Francisco, Taffy has slowly adapted to city life.  He was treated for heartworm during his first month here--a rough start.  He has regained his ability to srpint at full speed along the beach with unfettered joy.  He loves trail running and exploring the cool creeks along the way.  We think he missed his calling as a bomb-sniffing or drug-detection dog.  He can find our car, regardless of where we have parked it, hours or days after he has last seen it.  He homes right in on it.  We think his Monterey family had a dark-colored van.  For his first month here, he sniffed the chassis of every large, dark vehicle along the street.  Now he only finds our car, to ensure that he returns to His Rightful Spot on the couch and bed. All the better for snuggling!

We appreciate all that GGLR did to help Taffy's first loving family to find us.  Thank you!

Here are photos of him with my daughter's puppy at the beach. Not quite worn out after an hour of sprinting!

Regards,

Laura

Hi Liz:

I just wanted to take a few moments to tell you how important the work is that you do in rescuing labs and probably lots of other dogs. It seems obvious as to the benefits for the dogs when you find them their permanent homes; lots more security, protection from the elements, fresh food and water, medicine if needed, a bed (or in our case several) and mostly someone you can count on to be there to take care of you daily and when sick or hurt. And hopefully just lots more fun since they don't have to stress about "where to next?"

But, what is equally important is the benefit that humans realize when they adopt the right dog for them and their family. Since the moment Tom and Ellie met they have been glued to one another. She clearly loves him and he is smitten with her. Ellie came into Tom's life at a time when he really needed to find a canine companion to love, watch over and care for every day. They eat at the same time, sleep at the same time (both love naps) and go for car rides or mini adventures in the van together alone or with me and Charlie Brown.
Ellie has brought as much joy and satisfaction to Tom as Tom has brought security and protection to Ellie.

So thank you for doing what you do for so many animals and a BIG thank you for connecting us with Ellie.

Terri H.

Liz –

I have attached some photo’s of Callie, the chocolate Lab we adopted from GGLRR in March. She has been a great addition to the family, she loves to go to the beach and she has been great company for Chance (pictured as well) our yellow Lab. Chance was also adopted through GGLRR approximately 2 years ago. So we have what can be considered 2 happy endings!

Bruschi (Clyde)  has pretty much settled into our household.  He loves to go for his daily walks and hang our with the family.  He always has a paw to offer for a shake.  We're still working on some training issues to make our day to day lives easier, but we love him very much and are happy to have him in our lives.

Hi Liz,

It’s been almost 5 months since we adopted Bob and he has been a wonderful addition to our lives.
My husband and I are in our early 50’s and pretty active. We thought we might be a match when we met 7 year old Bob since we were all middle aged but still liked to get up and go!
Bob has a gentle and loving disposition and is very intelligent.  With consistent reminders he quickly learned the house rules and some manners we felt were important.
Bob is always up for anything, a road trip in the car, a walk around the neighborhood, a hike at the park or a nap next to me while I read.  We love him dearly and I think the feeling is mutual.
Thanks GGLR for helping us find Bob.

Phoebe quickly became a vibrant part of our family. She is full of energy (always) but has learned to calm down once she is inside the house.  She enjoys rough housing in the yard with her brother and then lounging in the sun for a snooze. She is a sweet and loving little girl

 Hi Liz,

I just want to say how wonderful and blessed we feel to have added Candy (Tara) to our  family and in our hearts.  Since day one, she has been a perfect fit for our family and has easily adjusted to her new routine of lots of walks, hikes and belly rubs!  She is beauitful, inside and out.  Thank you and Judy for all your help in making our family complete!

Hi,

Things are going well with Addison.  We have learned a lot from working with Beth, and he seems to be getting used to us and is starting to trust us.  He can get a bit too excited around other dogs, but we are working with him.

Addison is settling in well as a new member of our family! We are so glad we made the decision to get a rescue dog.  He is very sweet and loves tagging along with us wherever we can take him.  He is a regular fixture at all if our children's baseball and softball games and loves all the attention he gets from all the other spectators at the games.  We have really appreciated all the support we got from Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue!

It's been just over 3 months now since Buster (AKA "Sailor") got his Forever Home, and we all feel so lucky to have him!  He is such a great family dog, and loves to play.  Our 6 year old daughter had a birthday party last month, and he joined right in.  He goes outside with the kids and all the neighbor dogs want to play with him.  He plays baseball with our 9 year old son, and is the number one fielder!  He is very obedient and although he is a little food driven (typical lab), what he really loves is attention.  And he gets plenty of it.  That being said, we also make sure to give him some "independence" time as he has some issues with separation.  We want him to learn to be comfortable being alone, and hope that over time he will realize he's not going to be abandoned.

Since Laura works from home, it's rare that Buster has to be alone for too long.  We use a local doggie daycare when we will be gone for any extended period of time. He just loves going to play with his buddies.  He plays hard, takes a nap, goes for a walk, and plays some more.  He comes home pooped out, and takes his place on his mat or bed.

We can't say enough about how much the kids are enjoying Buster's presence.  I'm not sure if he's happier to be here or if we're happier to have him.  We're thrilled that he's a member of our family and look forward to many memorable years together.  Many thanks to Sylvana and Cindy for matching us with our boy!

Gratefully,

The W.  Family

Hi Liz,

We love our puppy Lincoln (formerly known as Lucky)! He's playful, gentle and loves to cuddle. He's our 50 pound lap dog. He enjoys going for walks and runs, plays well with other dogs and gets along with our cat. We've been taking him to training classes for the past two months, and it's really paying off. He's becoming a perfect gentleman. Thanks again for your help in matching us up with him. Lincoln is the perfect dog for us, and now we call ourselves lucky.

Kiki is doing quite well.  We have behavior specialist helping and training us to make Kiki into  a happy dog, that gives us pleasure and satisfaction. Her behavior is not quite perfect yet, but she made great strides towards it. Unfortunately she has some arthritis in her spine and her right front leg is slightly damaged, not too unusual for an elderly dog that was used as a breeder.  But we like her and is part of our family.

Things with Buster have been going great!  He is such a wonderful dog.  He has been such a great, and seamless, addition to our family.  He loves being around people and is very tolerant of our 3 year-old who love to use him for a pillow.

Hi Liz,

Grace is our beautiful girl and is adjusting wonderfully to our family.  She loves her walks and our 4 year old grandson is her best playmate.  We have alway had chocolate labs and she is just as sweet and loving as the rest.  She has definitely filled the hole in our hearts.  Attached are some photos one with her best friend my husband Randy.

This is June taking a nap with my son Josh. The puppies are the babies in
the family and have four parents doting on them. They love their daily walks
pon a nearby trail and also love to go to the dog park around the corner and
play with their friends. They have become well known in the neighborhood and
everyone is watching them grow. Next on the agenda is some schooling to
expand on and refine all the commands they already respond to.

Liz,

We are enjoying the company of ANSEL.  He is a very compatible dog.  We take him on walks daily which he enjoys. He is quite a chow hound and ALWAYS enjoys eating.  We have found areas where we can walk him off leash.  He enjoys running and playing, always stays within 30 feet of us.  I have a fish pond and had to build a gate to keep him out of the pond Attached are a few photos of Ansel and the gate.

Sincerely,

Cooper fits in perfectly with our lifestyle and we think he enjoys us as much as we enjoy him! He is a great dog who loves to go hiking, swimming, and chasing birds. We go running every morning at the park by our house where Cooper loves to retrieve his new duck toy. He is so calm when we are at home and a great companion dog, we are so glad we found him!

Thanks!

Thank you for asking about Molly.  She is the love of my life and has from day one been the sweetest, most loving little girl.  As you can see from the pictures Molly watches my grand son play and follows him around...much to his delight.  She is the perfect dog and my entire neighbor hood looks forward to greeting her on our walks.  I can't say enough about lab rescue and the incredible job you all do finding homes for these wonderful friends.  Thank you again and Molly sends her love.

Hi, Liz.

We couldn't be happier with our smart, loving, self-confident Poppy. She became a loved part of the family right from the start (well, one cat is still reserving his opinion, but we believe he'll come around). She spends the day with Chris while I'm at work. He takes her to his office and she has become the belle of the building. She loves to go romping in the ridge meadows near our house, and also loves to curl up at our feet during the evening.

We're very grateful to GGLR for rescuing our wonderful little girl, and for introducing us to her.

Best,

Marta

Buddha is an absolute gem.  He is doing so well.  He's been through one 5 week session of obedience school and did very well.  He's still working on his doggy manners with other dogs while walking but is nothing but lovable and cuddly around people.  We've also taken him to day care to socialize on many occasions and they report back that he does well with other dogs most of the time.

Myna is pregnant and Buddha is her little protector, well as little as 75 lbs of dog can be :). He behaves very well at home and absolutely loves getting new toys!  We order them online and he can usually pick out which package are him.  Once opened, he will prance around the house and backyard with his new toy until he eventually tires out and takes a nap with it.  I've attached one such pick of the toy hammer he got today :).

Everything is great! We couldn't be happier with Hennessy. He has settled in nicely and seems to be secure now that he finally has a forever home. Our two children shower him with affection and have taught him how to play fetch. He loves our two mile morning walks and is excellent on the leash now, though he still wants to chase birds and squirrels. We took him to the beach last weekend and he had a blast playing in the water with other dogs.
He is incredibly smart and eager to please, and therefore has been easy to train. We absolutely love having him as part of our family.

Thank you,

We adopted Bella just a month ago.  She’s 10 months old now and she’s such a sweetheart.  She sits at my feet under my desk during the day, or on the couch in my office.  When it’s time to play she and her brother Max (Ridgeback mix rescue) run around our yard like the best of friends!  Max couldn’t have asked for a better little sister and we couldn’t be happier with the new addition to the family.  Attached find Bella sniffing around some new landscape work while big brother Max looks on.  Not pictured but omnipresent – slobbery tennis ball.

Lucy had a few ailments along the way, but nothing out of the norm for a puppy.  She seems to be feeling much better now, and as you can see, is so sweet!  She is a natural at playing fetch, but loses interest after a couple tosses of the ball.  Today, however, she played much longer with a frisbee; I think she was more interested in chewing it up, but she always brought it back.  We're eagerly awaiting the completion of her shots so we can take her out. Our family and friends adore her, and she is a welcome addition to our family. We can't wait for her to meet our other dog, Cody.  He'll be returning home from Grandma's (my mom's) in a couple of weeks!   Thank you!

Hi Liz,

Nice to hear from you.  Everything is going great.  We love this dog to pieces!  She is a great dog and everyone who meets her says so.  The picture is Lucy and her "brother" swimming in a pond up in the Shell Ridge open space.  She loves our hikes up there, going for car rides or just hanging with us at home.
Thank you so much for letting her be a part of our family,

Hi Liz,

We contacted GGLRR last September after we had put our lab down
due to cancer.  She was 13 and a loyal and faithful member of our
family and I wasn't sure I could find another dog that could take her
place.  Judy found our new girl Molly for us and we adopted her in
October.  It was love at first sight for me--Molly is such a sweet girl.
She was a little overweight when we got her but with our daily walks
and her special diet she has lost about 13 lbs. and our vet thinks
she is just about perfect.  She was at home the minute she walked
into our house and we can't believe we are so lucky to have her.
She loves when our grandchildren are over and she is always up for
a game of "tug".  We have taken some basic manners classes with
her and Molly makes us look good--for a 1 year old she is very calm
and willing to please.  We can't thank you enough for finding Molly
for us and we talk about GGLRR to everyone who is looking for
a lab.  Molly has found her forever home with us.

My wife and I would like to thank Sylvana and Joan of GGLLR in helping us
find "Buddy" and bringing him to his "Forever Home" (September 2010).  Buddy
is the sweetest Chocolate Lab with enough energy to power a small city. He
can go from a deep sleep to chase the ball in two bounces, smiles all the
time (especially for pictures), loves to play, and speaks to us through
various grunts and growls.  We believe that he is part cat from the way he
pounces on tennis balls.  Buddy takes me for walks every day and supervises
me around the house during the various "honey-do" projects.  Pictures of
Buddy can be found everywhere throughout the house, work, and on our
computers.  He's quite the percussionist too, since his tail is constantly
wagging and pounding away on walls, floors, furniture, legs, etc.  We're
looking forward to swimming, camping, and hiking during the warmer summer
months.  We are extremely grateful for the work your organization does, and
for bringing our Buddy home.

Thank you and warmest regards,
Kevin, Liz, & Buddy

Hi Liz!

We saw Oliver's picture (per you....just minutes after you posted it) and that weekend he was ours!
"...and they called it puppy love..."

We adopted Oliver (formerly known as Chewey) from you on January 22, 2011.  It was love at first sight!!  Oh my goodness!  The energy from a puppy can be exhausting, but because of the energy, there is so much laughter in the house.  Oliver is a character, one of a kind.  His antics have us all rolling on the floor and playing chase around the house!

Oliver was meant to be in our family and we are blessed with his unconditional love!

Ginger came to us with a serious, deep wound at the top of her leg that had become badly infected.  We had surgery to clean out the wound and repair the damage (and spayed her while we were at it).  She was a stray in Bakersfield....is the sweetest dog EVER...is about 18 mo-2 years old, weighs 57 lbs.  This wonderful couple, who have been looking for a yellow girl for a long time, adopted her immediately and took her home.  She had been wearing a cone to keep her from going for the incision (which she did the instant the cone was removed) and her new family came up with the "shirt solution."  Brilliant.  Ginger is now really happy and is clearly doing well.

We brought Isabel, now Bella, (our niece is Isabel so that wouldn't work) home a little over a week ago. She has a perfect temperament, is a wonderful addition to our home, and has settled in beautifully. Our 18-month old daughter can't get enough of her, and loves to pet her, help feed her, and put on her leash, and Bella is always so patient with her. When our daughter wakes up in the morning and from naps she yells "doggie!" right away and wants to find her. Bella gets extra wiggly when she sees her leash and gives a little hop and a whine to let us know how excited she is for her walks. She is perfectly content to 'help' in the kitchen, monitor yard work, or lay at my feet while I work online. We're so happy to have her with us!

We are so happy we adopted Charlie!  He is such a love and so great around our kids.  He is so good-natured and so eager to please.   His manners need a little refining, but considering his rough start in life, that's to be expected.  He has made the transition to our home beautifully, and it feels like he's been a part of the family forever.

Hi Liz

We have had Laika now for 24 happy days. And every morning he wakes us up with his sweet face planted on the bed looking at us. He is so sweet tempered and fun. He really has captured our hearts.
He has been to the beach and loves  the water and rolling in the sand. In the evening he loves getting on the sofa with us and enjoying a nice fire and some T.V.
Thank you for choosing us to be Laika's family. We will be sure he knows how much he is loved everyday.

Liz,

Thank you so much for assisting us with the adoption of Jasmine (Gabby)! We fell in love with her immediately and she quickly became part of our little family. While she was shy at first, she really came out of her shell after a few days. She has a wonderful personality - she loves people and other dogs. Everyone compliments us on how pretty she is - we agree! She is learning quickly, she is house-trained by now and knows how to walk on leash and sit. We love exploring San Francisco's parks with her and can't wait to take her to the Ocean Beach.
We are very thankful to GGLRR for rescuing her and proving us with an opportunity to welcome her to our home!

Sylvania,

I just wanted to let you know what a joy Shadow has been in our lives. It has been almost a year since we adopted her. She is doing great! At first she didn't want to be left alone and would sit in front of the door so we couldn't leave. Now I tell her I will be back soon, and she goes and gets in her bed and waits for me or one of the kids to get home. She loves to walk and hike anywhere we go, be it beach, desert or snow. And when I am home, she is my shadow and follows me anywhere I go. She is loving and loyal to all of us. And very gentle with all the children in our neighborhood. Thanks so much for helping her find us. We are so lucky!

Thanks Debra!

Our family adopted Lucky in late January 2011 and have been loving every moment with him.  We waited awhile to adopt another dog after our last, and we could not have asked for a better fit.  Lucky is such a loving, playful, funny big bear of a boy.  It is great to have such a wonderful dog following after us.  Our family has gained a walking companion, running partner, ball throwing playmate and it is awesome.  My daughter smothers him with love and they are each others best friends.  Thanks to Debra and GGLRR for what they do every day in finding homes for these wonderful dogs.  I also want to say thanks to Lucky's foster parents Steve and Mellisa for allowing us into their home and seeing what a great match we all were for each other.

Our new dog, Kane (formerly Kinsh) is an absolutely wonderful addition to our family!  We've only had him for a short time, but we love him like he has been here forever.  He is so wonderful, and although you described his personality perfectly, he has far surpassed our expectations.  He is so affectionate towards all of us and is most happy when someone is petting, rubbing or scratching him.  He follows us everywhere, and we love having him in our home.  He is so calm and we have yet to hear him bark.  Kane is getting all of the love and attention he deserves, and is providing all of us with much joy in return.

We want to thank Debra, Joan, and GGLRR for helping us to find the perfect forever dog for our family!

We are so happy with Casey and we think he is pretty happy too.  We were very unsuccessful in getting him to sleep in his new dog bed last night.  After seven attempts of getting him off the bed, we gave in on the eighth try.  Pretty funny but we will have to nip that behavior tonight.

Thanks for everything.  We LOVE him and he will have a very, very good life with us.

Hi Judy!

We absolutely love Jet! (previously known as Parker, adopted 10/30, fostered by Liz Lang) He loves running after squirrels, playing at the dog park, hiking, chasing waves at the beech...chewing his hedgehog toy....kongs...cuddling...working for treats. We took him
snowshoeing in Tahoe and he loved it! We are in dog training and he is learning so much. We graduated from the beginner class and will start intermediate next week.

What a great dog! You were absolutely right...thank you for matching him with us, we couldn't be happier!

He gets along wonderfully with people, kids, other dogs, and our cat. He still countersurfs, but we are getting much better about minimizing the opportunities. He is finding his big dog bark...and keeping us informed of passersby. Hope to work on that, now, too!

Thank you so much for all you are doing with the labs...and
specifically for matching us with Jet!

Happy New Year,

Hi Liz,
My husband Chuck and I adopted Rex from GGLRR back in January.
Rex has been an absolute joy in our household, and a great big brother to a new rescue dog, Eddy, whom we brought home last month. From the beginning, Rex has been fantastic. About one month after he came home, I broke my leg in a ski accident, had a few surgeries, then was home for a month and on crutches for three months. He kept me company during that time and was a great dog-nurse. He loves going to Fort Funston (though still unsure about the water!) and meeting other dogs. He and Eddy romp around the house, then fall asleep together on the doggie bed.
I can't thank you guys enough for bringing Rex into our lives.
Thanks much, and happy holidays,
-Carmie
