Charlie Brown and Schroeder Yellow Lab Mix Puppies, Males, Approximate ~12 weeks old
Background: These two were among seven puppies found nursing from their mama dog in a "red-tagged" abandoned house in Lake County. Taken to the Lake County shelter for care and safety, we brought them and mama into our program on 23 December. We are delighted to have the opportunity to help them find some awesome forever homes. We believe they may be Lab/pit mixes.
What puppies' foster says: An absolute hoot! These guys romp and wrestle until they pass out from exhaustion. They are sleeping quite well through the night; lights out around 10:30 PM... with a white noise machine making chirping cricket sounds... they get me out of bed at ~6 AM. Feeding them three times per day, they are voracious eaters. Still working on their house-training -- they still pee wherever they want (ugh)... but they are mostly pooping outside. They are intrigued by my other dogs and want to play with them. I just started taking them outside to my yard and they are in heaven exploring the world around them.
What Rescue Rep Says Given that the puppies have not completed their cycle of puppy vaccinations and are being treated for parasites, they will need to be quarantined in their adopter's home and backyard until fully vaccinated and parasite free. Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention, can't be left alone much, cries a lot -- especially at night when you want to sleep. Eat, poop/pee, play, sleep... repeat, repeat, repeat. Puppy-raising is also filled with joy and fun. Young puppies have sharp teeth and tend to go for human toes when available. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to fully commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too.

Medical: Charlie Brown and Schroeder are in fine health -- growing like crazy. After several rounds of intestinal parasites, these two guys have bounced back in fine fashion. They have received their first two distemper vaccinations - one more to go ~11 Feb. Neutering, microchipping and Rabies vax are down the road and will be covered by Lab Rescue.
