Video: Amber Exploring

AMBER - 2 1/2 YR OLD FEMALE YELLOW LAB, 75 LBS, SPAYED

Background: Amber has lived on a ranch since she was a puppy with 4 other dogs including 2 from her last litter. She has roamed free on the property living outdoors with the other dogs. As much as the owners wish they could keep her, they aren't able to provide her the attention she needs and asked GGLRR to help rehome her.

What Owner Says: Amber is an AKC registered yellow Labrador and we've had her since she was eight weeks old. We crate trained her and when she was old enough she joined the other two Labradors outside on the deck. Her hunting characteristics came out when she was about one year old. Previously she was fine with cats but then started chasing them and it changed the dynamics of our home. All the cats had to hide from her.

Amber is a natural at fetching and would do it all day if allowed. She is a friendly, loving and gregarious dog. She is an Alpha female and wants to be in charge. She is quite muscular from her physical activities on the ranch and is a strong swimmer. She has had one litter of puppies and was a great mother and is comfortable with babies and young children. Amber needs to be removed from the pack and develop a one-on-one relationship with someone or be in a family situation where she can get a lot of attention and have a lot of activity. She enjoys being a passenger in our RTV, is good in a car and obedient when on a leash, but doesn’t listen when she is chasing a scent.

What GGLRR Rescue Rep Says: Amber is a bright, beautiful young Lab! Confident and outgoing, she’s the kind of pup who makes fast friends with both people and other dogs. Whether she's soaking up affection, romping around the ranch, or splashing in the water, Amber is eager to be part of the action. With her athletic build and curious spirit, Amber thrives on activity and would love a home where she can stretch her legs, explore, and keep her sharp mind engaged. She already knows the basics like “sit” and “come,” and she’s a quick learner who’s ready to take on more with the right guidance.

Amber had some crate training in her early months but now sleeps outdoors, so she’ll need a little help adjusting to full-time indoor life. She will be best with an experienced family that can give her structure and guide her through the appropriate behavior for living in a house including housetraining, basic obedience and leash manners. A family where someone is home most of the time and a secure yard is a must for Amber. She’d be thrilled to have a canine companion to romp with and kids over 6 would be fine. She will need a cat-free home due to her strong prey drive.

If you’re looking for an energetic, affectionate pup who’s ready to be your loyal sidekick on every adventure, Amber might just be your perfect match!

Medical: Amber seems to be in good health, is spayed, and will be getting up to date on vaccines/preventatives soon.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
