Behr 1 year-old male black lab mix, 50 pounds, neutered

Background: Behr's owner has made the difficult decision to rehome him given her current situation. He is kept in his crate for several hours a day and does not have access to a fenced yard. Although he has regular walks he is not able to socialize much with other dogs or people.

What Behr's owner says: Behr is a beautiful black Lab mix with all Black lab characteristics. He loves to play fetch with balls and play by himself with his chew toys. He can be a goofball at times and he always makes me laugh. You will fall in love with him and he also wants to fall in love with you. He is still a puppy with more energy than I can handle. He needs room to run in a backyard or someone to take him hiking. He does need to be more socialized with humans and other dogs. He just wants to play with everyone.

What Rescue Rep Says Behr is a friendly, playful young pup who loves attention and playing with toys. He currently lives with another small, older dog (puggle). Not sure about cats. He's about 50 lbs and will need leash training and training on general commands beyond “sit.” He is food motivated but shows no signs of resource guarding of food or toys. He is crate trained and house trained. When meeting other dogs Behr gets very excited and pulls to get close, but has not shown any aggression and just wants to play.

A home with a yard where Behr could burn off some of his energy would be ideal. He will need regular exercise and some help with leash training. He does like to jump up when meeting people so not a good match for families with toddlers, but he has been around children over 6 with no issues. Another older dog might be good to show him the ropes, although he'd likely be fine alone.

Medical: Behr is in good health, is neutered, and is up to date on all his vaccines and preventatives.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
