Behr 1.5 year-old male black lab mix, 68 pounds, neutered

Background: Behr was adopted earlier this year by a loving family including a dog brother. Behr and his brother, another lab mix about the same age, initially got along well playing fetch or just hanging out together. Recently, Behr's brother has become very protective of his owner and aggressive with Behr when he is playing with their owner. As much as they wish they could keep him, they are worried about the safety of the family and the two dogs and have asked GGLRR for help to rehome him.

What Behr's owner says: BBehr's name says it all! His heart and courage is as large and powerful as his name. Behr is easy to love and train with very little effort needed to get him on track. He has already learned the commands sit, stay, down, come, drop and load (jump in car). Behr loves to play fetch, hike and snuggle on the couch. He will need time to settle in and it takes a bit for him to relax given his history. Behr will be a great companion for an active family or a family that likes to take it easy walking or fishing.

What Rescue Rep Says Behr is a friendly, playful young pup who loves attention and playing with toys. He's about 68 lbs and is coming along with his leash training and knows several commands. He is food motivated but shows no signs of resource guarding of food or toys. He is crate trained and house trained. When meeting other dogs Behr gets very excited and pulls to get close when on leash, but has not shown any aggression and just wants to play. He does really well at the dog park meeting and playing with other dogs.

A home with a yard where Behr could burn off some of his energy would be ideal. He will need regular exercise and some help with leash training. He does like to jump up when meeting people so not a good match for families with smaller children and being the only dog would be best for Behr. Unsure about cats.

Medical: Behr is in good health, is neutered, and is up to date on all his vaccines and preventatives.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
