Bryce: 10 year-old neutered male black Lab mix, 104 lbs

Background: To meet Bryce is to love him. He's a sweet, distinguished gentleman. A wonderful dog. Bryce was found lying by the side of the road in Stanislaus County by animal control officers and no owner came to claim him. Seriously - how could someone just dump a senior dog like that - how awful! The shelter staff quickly fell in love with Bryce and knew that his sweet boy deserved better. They reached out to GGLRR to help find Bryce a loving forever home to spend his golden years. Are you the guardian angel that Bryce is looking for?

What shelter says: Bryce is a TEDDY BEAR of a Labrador Retriever! Sweet, friendly, cuddly, wants to be near a person whether you’re in the yards or in the offices. He is attention seeking and loves affection. I love this boy! He is gentle and quiet, he tested well with male and female dogs and both were higher energy which didn’t faze him in the least. Bryce is looking for a place where he will be loved and treated like a king. I don’t know why his owners didn’t come looking for him but their loss could be your gain!

What Bryce's foster says: Bryce would be a good fit for a retired person, or a place where there is someone around most of the time. He doesn’t have separation anxiety, but he currently has another dog for company and our house is never empty for more than two (2) hours. He likes to be physically close to people at all times, and he’d make a great companion for binge watching the latest trending TV shows. Very calm and casual, even when people come and go. He likes to eat and now knows where his food is located. Doesn’t try to grab the food when I’m filling his bowl (the container is low and he can reach it if he tries) and I can always take his bowl away. But he never begs, and is not interested in human food. Doesn’t pull on walks and goes at a casual steady pace. Likes to interact with other dogs but he is calm. No issues with meeting small or big dogs. He is really quiet and barking is only minimal. It only happens if we are exactly by the garage door and some large dog passes by really close.

What Rescue Rep Says Adopting a senior like Bryce can bring a special joy to your heart. Your day will seem brighter just hanging out with him. He is most definitely into snuggles - some days we could all use a good snuggle!

Keeping moving is important for all of us, but maybe nowadays for you it’s not about power walks and new personal bests, It’s more of a stroll to enjoy the fresh air, stop and smell the roses, and chat with neighbors. If so, Bryce is your guy.

Love has no age limit. While you may not have as many days to spend with a senior dog as you would a puppy, the days you have with the dog are oh so rich! You can see in their eyes how grateful they are for the warm home, soft bed, and human companionship.

Come meet Bryce and you may discover your new best friend.

Medical: Bryce is recently neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on preventative. He is currently taking a round of antibiotics to treat a UTI and prostatitis (not uncommon in older intact male dogs), which his recent neuter should also help. His senior blood test shows chronic inflammation, but is otherwise fine. Bryce has some arthritis that we are treating with pain-reliever / anti-inflammatory meds which he tolerates well. He has some worn/broken teeth which don’t currently seem to bother him, but he may eventually need some dental work. Bryce appears to have had long term ear infections. We had his ears cleaned and are applying a medicated ointment.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
