Video: Charlie in the yard

Charlie: 4-Year Old Male, Black Lab Mix, 77 lbs, Intact.

Background: Charlie’s owners got him as a puppy and have given him a great start in life. After the arrival of their second child earlier this summer, they realized that with caring for two young children and increased work demands, Charlie was not getting the time and attention that he deserved. They called GGLRR to help find this great dog a loving home where he will get the activity level and attention that a Lab needs.

This handsome boy is a black and tan labrador retriever. Yes, that’s an actual Lab color! The black and tan coloring occurs when a recessive gene is inherited from both parents. Here is an article with some background on black and tan Labradors.

What Charlie's Owner Says: Charlie is a 4 year old tan and black labrador retriever. Born in July 2020. He's a good boy, listens well, and food motivated so he's easy to train. He's eager to please for some love and attention. He's a good and healthy boy. He's had health insurance and been on a wellness program his whole life. He's an inside dog. He's gentle around children and gets along with other animals. We are very overwhelmed with life right now and we fear he's being neglected and not getting the treatment and attention he deserves. We have a toddler, and a newborn and cannot take care of everyone well with my partner's job being more demanding and with little outside help.

He's a good and sweet boy that loves his walks, playing fetch, can't get enough attention and cuddling. He will get into food when left out if no one is around in purses, on counters, etc.

What Charlie's Rescue Rep Says: What a sweet, fun dog! Charlie greeted me at the door with a deep alert bark to announce my presence and jumped up to give me an enthusiastic kiss. Although he can get excited meeting new people, Charlie is gentle with the young children in the home and with the two cats that he currently lives with. No guarding concerns, he easily let me take food and toys away. We’d love to see Charlie go to a home with a yard where he can play fetch and with an active family who enjoys taking him out on walks and hikes. He can pull on leash, so his current family walks him on a gentle leader (head halter) that he does well with, though he also walked ok for me with a harness. He is a big boy and should go to someone comfortable with a larger dog. He is house trained and was crate trained as a puppy but his owners haven’t used the crate with him as an adult. He enjoys riding in the car and likes to swim. He’d be a wonderful dog for someone looking for a companion for outdoor play / adventures and indoor cuddling.

Medical: Charlie is up to date on vaccinations and on preventatives. GGLRR will coordinate his neuter with his adopter.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
