Diego 1-year-old male yellow Lab mix 60-lb Neutered

Background:Just not a good match for his family. Diego is just too active and plays too rough for his human family of young children.

What Their Owner Says:We got Diego from an ad on Craigs’ List about a month ago. We were told he is a Lab/greyhound mix. Diego needs more training than we can provide him. He is very playful and has high energy. He sleeps on his dog bed at night but will climb into onto the human’s bed if allowed. Diego is both house-broken and crate-trained. We exercise him by taking him on two 30-minute bike rides and two 30-45 minute walks each day. He has been socialized with our own 20-lb dog. We have taken Diego to the dog park and he runs around with other dogs; at times he becomes submissive when other big dogs play rough with him. He seems to be more comfortable with smaller dogs than big dogs. We cannot leave Diego home alone (outside his crate) as gets restless and chews things he shouldn’t.

What Our Evaluator Says:Friendly dog; interested in people. Initially barks at people he is not familiar with. Will jump up on you. A bit mouthy. Diego pulls a little, but over all walks pretty well on leash. Soft mouth with treats. Not aggressive at dog park. Timid. Will approach calmer dogs. Aggressive dogs make him fearful; anxious, whimpering a little bit. He was low-key when an on-leash dog approach us; clearly has not had much exposure to strange people or dogs.

What Their Rescue Rep Says: Diego is a wonderful dog with huge potential. He is experiencing about the world around hm. He is still learning boundaries and figuring out what is good behavior and what is not so good behavior. Not for a family with small children or cats… or anyone unsteady on their feet. Wil require a lot of exercise… including off-leash running and romping.

Medical: In great health. Neutered. Microchipped. Current on vax and heartworm negative./p>

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
