Video: Fiona and her two other canine mates meet another dog, Ellie.

FIONA - 2.5 years old, FEMALE CHOCOLATE LAB, 75 Pounds, Needs to be Spayed

Background:Fiona's owners need to rehome her and two of their other Labs due to her mom's health issues which have made it difficult to properly care for them. Fiona and the other two Labs are housed in outdoor kennels in the backyard. They are all friendly dogs in need of training.

What Fiona's Family Says: Fiona is described as hyper, playful, and loving. She knows a few commands like sit, down, come, and wait, and she’ll offer her paw when you say “mano” (Spanish for hand). She’s especially fond of toys, playing fetch, and lying in the water.

What Rescue Rep Says: Fiona greeted us with some barking at first, but she quickly settled down and happily accepted pets. She did try to jump up in her excitement, but her mom had her on leash and kept her from doing so. Fiona lives with two other Labs — her son and his father — and gets along well with them. There is also an indoor/outdoor cat that Fiona seems indifferent towards while sometimes curious and will bark at him. She has been exposed to one of the Chihuahuas in the home. One of our volunteers took her intact female over to meet with Fiona and the other two dogs, individually, to see how each did with a dog outside of their usual circle. All, including Fiona, did fine although Fiona was more interested in sticking by her owner rather than playing with the other dog.

Because Fiona and her canine companions haven’t had training, they’re best suited for experienced dog owners who are familiar with Labrador Retrievers. Fiona will thrive in a home where she can be part of the family and receive consistent guidance and basic obedience training. She’ll also need help with housetraining. Fiona would likely enjoy the company of another friendly dog and could do well with older kids. She may not be the best fit for households with toddlers or babies, as she can be jumpy when excited. Ideally, we’re looking for a home where she won’t be left alone for long stretches during the day, a large yard for her to play, and a family committed to working with and training her.

Medical: Fiona is in good health and needs to be spayed. We will schedule this as soon as Fiona has a foster or adopter in place.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
