Fluffy 12-year-old female yellow Lab mix 71 lbs Spayed
Background: Fluffy's owner passed away in early 2024... and Fluffy was somehow then relegated to the backyard where she was left alone, pretty much abandoned for the next six months. She received little food and water in her solitary confinement. During this isolation, Fluffy lost weight and was inundated with fleas... and over the months she was in the backyard, she lost much of her fur. Well, the family resolved to sell the house and contacted us to take Fluffy -- the day before the house was sold. After a brief stop at Pet Food Express for a sorely needed and long overdue bath, we now have her settled into a foster home and on the road to recovery.
What Fluffy's Foster Says: Fluffy is happily rebounding from her miserable experience and her skin and general health are on the mend. She is very sweet and easy going. She is very content with her 2 square meals a day and a soft bed to sleep in. Fluffy is definitely clear about what she wants and is extremely food motivated. Fluffy is housetrained as she goes outside to take care of her business throughout the day. She has figured out how to use the dog door after only a couple of days. Sleeps through the night with nary a peep. Loves to have her ears and chin scratched and will lie on her back with her legs splayed open hoping for a belly rub.
What Fluffy's Rescue Rep Says: What a wonderful lady who had fallen on hard times. Fluffy is on a steady road to recovery. She would do best in a quiet home where she can continue to recuperate. Fluffy will reward her caretaker with affection and appreciation. No idea how she is with cats, but she has taken to playing with Blackjack, one of my other foster dogs. I would guess that Fluffy is a Lab/shepherd mix. Older dogs have so much love to give their humans... They deserve comfortable homes to live out their golden years.
Medical: Spayed. Current on vaccinations. Heartworm negative. Her skin and fur are recovering from long-term flea dermatitis, bacteria and yeast infection. Weekly medicated shampoo baths and some orals meds are in her current wellness plan. Our vet also found her to be hypothyroid so she is taking a daily thyroxin pill. Fluffy does have some arthritis in her back legs/hips so she walks pretty stiff; we are trying to restore some muscle to her backside and will be getting her on some pain-reliever/anti-inflammatory soon.
