LILY - 1 YR OLD FEMALE YELLOW LAB, 68 LBS, SPAYED
Background: Lily has lived on a ranch since she was a puppy with one of her male littermates, her mother, father and grandmother. She has roamed free on the property living outdoors with the other dogs, but as the lowest member of the pack. As much as the owners wish they could keep her, they aren't able to provide her the attention she needs and asked GGLRR to help rehome her.
What Owner Says: Lily is well socialized having met many people at our ranch which also is a bed and breakfast and winery. She is a very sweet dog that tries to please but is overshadowed by her boisterous brother. She waits patiently for treats while her brother tries to steal all of the treats. She is a great swimmer and she loves to play with her brother.
Lily likes to come in the house but she hasn’t spent much time there because it is a public place and not appropriate for her to be there. She sleeps on the front deck at our house in an igloo or crate along with the other dogs. She is a good watch dog and barks with the other dogs when any vehicle or person approaches.
Lily is starving for attention but has to compete with the other dogs. She is a bit shy and lacking in confidence but when she gets attention she shines. She tries to please and just needs that special someone to make her life complete.
Lily doesn’t have a lot of experience on a leash but she doesn’t pull and is obedient. She has never been alone so she would probably need to be around another dog. She is an active dog and would need a home where she could have space to run around and play. She has not learned respect for cats, but I believe that she could be introduced to cats and eventually understand that they are also part of the family.
We are giving up Lily because she deserves to be the number one dog and not just one of the pack. She wants to have more interaction with us but it is impossible to give her what she needs with so many other pets to care for.
What GGLRR Rescue Rep Says: Lily is a beautiful young dog with a lot of energy and a whole lot of love to give! This sweet girl is happiest when she’s the center of attention. While she can be a little shy at first with new people, she’ll quickly warm up to you and happily accept pets. Lily is full of curiosity and spends her days running freely on the ranch. She already knows basic commands like “sit” and “come” but hasn't had the experience of living inside a home just yet. She does keep her crate clean outdoors and seems smart and eager to learn.
Lily would thrive in a home with a patient, experienced family that can give her structure and guide her through the appropriate behavior for living in a house including housetraining, basic obedience and leash manners. A secure yard where she can run and play plus plenty of daily exercise will be needed. She would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. Another dog who can help her learn would be ideal, but no cats and small children as she works on her manners.
Medical: Lily is in good health, up to date on all vaccinations, and is spayed.
