Marcie Chocolate and Tan Lab Mix, Female Puppy, Approx birthdate November 8, 2024, 15 lbs
Background: This sweet little soul has already been through so much in her young life, but she's not just a survivor—she's a fighter and full of love, waiting to share it with her forever family. Born among seven puppies found nursing from their mama dog in a "red-tagged" abandoned house in Lake County. Taken to the Lake County shelter for care and safety, we brought the pups and mama into our program on 23 December. Marcie and her siblings encountered challenges that no puppy should ever face, but she was determined to push through.
Marcie was one of two puppies who came down with Parvo, and her condition was the most severe. But against all odds, this little one was hospitalized and fought back with every ounce of strength she had. Today, she's a healthy, happy pup who’s ready for a fresh start in a home filled with love, attention, and all the care she deserves.
Mama dog and four of Marcie's siblings have been adopted. The shelter recorded that Mama Kashi and her puppies are Pit Bull terriers. We feel the puppies are more Labby than Pitty -- you be the judge. Either way, we are delighted to have the opportunity to help Marcie find her forever home.
What Marcie's Foster Says: Marcie is a sweet, gentle puppy who wants to befriend everyone. Whenever someone comes to the house, she makes her way to the front door, wagging her tail and rear end. She loves to meet the children I tutor and will sit calmly on a child’s lap while we work. She would love to play with our grumpy older dogs and cat, but she approaches them respectfully and takes no for an answer.
Marcie is remarkably calm for a puppy. She doesn’t bark or jump on people. She’s a big cuddler - she loves to be held and to sleep snuggled on a lap. While very friendly, she reads social cues and doesn’t push herself on people or animals that don’t want her attention. That said, she is yearning for an opportunity to play with other animals.
Marcie also has a silly, playful side. She loves chasing and carrying around her toys. She will pick up a backpack that is bigger than she is and pull it out of the room. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks. Marcie needs a home where she will receive and give lots of love and affection. She has the temperament to be a pet-assisted therapy dog. But I wouldn’t recommend her as a guard dog - she’s too sweet and friendly.
What Marcie's Rescue Rep Says: Marcie is incredibly sweet, gentle, and playful. She loves cuddles, giving puppy kisses, and playing with her favorite toys. Though she’s had a tough beginning, her heart is as big as can be, and she’s ready to bring joy to a family who will cherish her forever. I had the pleasure of having her for an overnight, and she truly was a joy to have. She always came out of her crate with a wagging tail and wiggly body, always so happy. She is looking for a home where she can continue to thrive. If you're looking for a loyal companion with an incredible story of resilience, Marcie is your girl.
Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention, can't be left alone much. Eat, poop/pee, play, sleep... repeat, repeat, repeat. Puppy-raising is also filled with joy and fun. Young puppies have sharp teeth and tend to go for human toes and fingers when available. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to fully commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too.

Medical: Now that Marcie has recovered from Parvo, she is on a puppy vaccine schedule and just received her DHPP and Rabies. Spaying and microchipping are down the road and will be coordinated by Lab Rescue.
