Maverick, 6 years old male black Lab 55 lbs, Neutered

Background: Maverick's family adopted him from us two years ago, but human family health issues now present challenges to providing Maverick with the care and time he deserves. They made the very difficult decision to find him a new home that can attend to his needs.

What Maverick's former owner says: Maverick is good with people of all ages. He has high energy, loves to run, swim and fetch sometimes. He is house-trained but we do not crate him. He sleeps in his dog bed at night. Maverick knows his name but his recall is not great; he will come if you have treats or your car door is open. He loves to be part of a human and dog pack. He likes to ride in the car. He is quite gentle with young children. Loves other dogs; likes to chase and be chased.

What Maverick's foster says: Maverick is a little love with limitless energy. I can take him for a 2-mile walk and he runs to play with toys the second we get in the door. He would do well with an active family who can give him an outlet for his high energy. If you are looking for your own personal dog-shaped shadow Maverick is the guy for you! He follows me EVERYWHERE in the house. Mav keeps the bath mat warm for me while I shower and loves to rest at my feet while I'm working from home or watching TV . He’s also a pretty decent cooking and eating supervisor, only watching for dropped crumbs from a safe distance and never begging. He has very good house manners no barking or accidents in the house. Maverick can remove the squeaker from a brand new toy in just a few short minutes. He is very strong and we are working on him pulling on his leash while walking with good progress.

What Rescue Rep Says An awesome, high-energy dog. Ain't no couch-potato dog here. Maverick requires lots of exercise and structure by his humans. Would be fine in a home with kids that can deal with a dog with a little bit of the wild side in him. Recommend no cats, but presence of other dogs would be great. Pool would be lovely. Beach-side or lake-side property would be just fine. Not for someone unsteady on their feet. Not a city dog.

Medical: Maverick is in great health. Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on vaccinations.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
