Mercedes 1 Year Old Chocolate Labrador Mix, 52 Pounds, Will be Spayed

Background: Mercedes was picked up as a stray in Merced, along with another black Lab, that we think was her brother; he was pulled by another rescue. A shelter volunteer described Mercedes as high energy, very friendly, and plays well with other dogs.

What Mercedes' Foster Says: Meet Mercedes, a sweet and affectionate Chocolate Lab looking for her forever home! This cuddle bug still has some playful puppy energy but settles quickly, making her a delightful companion.

Mercedes loves playing fetch and is learning to enjoy toys alongside her foster's two dogs. She craves attention, especially ear scratches and belly rubs. Though she does scratch and lick, particularly in the mornings which is something we're trying to address.

Mercedes enjoys her walks and is pretty good on a leash with a harness, responding well to corrections. She's curious about meeting new people and dogs but might be a bit shy at first. However, her curiosity soon wins over, and she'll happily accept some pets. Mercedes is crate-trained, sleeping through the night, and though she barks at outside noises, she travels well in the car.

Given her excitement and occasional jumping, she's better suited for a family with older children. She'd thrive in an active family, especially with another dog to learn from and play with. If you're looking for a loving, energetic, and trainable companion, Mercedes might just be the perfect fit!

What Mercedes' Rescue Rep Says: Mercedes just arrived (6/10/24) from the shelter in Merced. She's been shuffled around a bit since we got her. We had a short term foster take care of her until she was supposed to head to her longer term foster but with the kennel cough, we quarantined her with another short term foster who didn't have a dog before she headed to her longer term foster where she arrived on 6/28/24. She is a sweet, somewhat timid girl. She is an alert barker and lets you know when someone's at the door. Mercedes will thrive in a calm and supporting home environment that will help her grow in confidence by continuing to work/train with her through consistent encouragement, socialization, and postive reinforcements. We think she'd benefit from another nice canine sibling to show her that the world isn't such a scary place. She is good with other dogs. We do not know how she is with cats.

Medical: Mercedes has recovered from her kennel cough, is being treated for Giardia, is up to date on core vaccines, and is heartworm negative. She will be spayed and microchipped.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
