MILLIE

Millie: Approximate 1 Year Old Female Black Lab Mix, 50 lbs, Spayed.

Background: Millie and two other dogs (we think they are siblings) were found in a park in Modesto, likely dumped. A good Sam picked them up and took them to her house, but had to keep them in the backyard as she had other dogs inside the home. We brought all three dogs into the program. Millie was pregnant and thankfully, her foster stepped up in the nick of time so Millie could deliver her pups indoors protected from the harsh 100 degree temperatures that hit Modesto during the summer heatwave.

Millie has done an excellent job taking care of her puppies, and they have all been adopted!

What Millie's Foster Says: Millie was the BEST mama ever! Even though we think she was barely 10-11 months when she delivered her babies, she took such great care of them, watched over them carefully through each stage, including their first visit to the vet for vaccinations! Her pups all have her very sweet disposition, and were amazingly smart. The first time they were exposed to a pee pad, they immediately used them, and it took only a couple tries to teach them to 'sit' when I brought out food bowls - at 5/6 weeks! Millie wasn't too happy whenever one of the resident dogs decided to visit the pups in their x-pen...but she is by far one of the most social dogs I have ever had, foster or my own! I have many friends who visit with their dogs, and she has not met a single one she didn't welcome with open paws and try to make them her newest best friend! She's going to be very happy in a home with other dogs, especially playful ones!

She's housetrained, sleeps in a large crate currently, but I'm sure she'd love to be sleeping in someone's bed. She has not shown any kind of toy or food resource guarding, and in fact she is currently eating in my kitchen with five other dogs, no problem!

She is still cautious around new people, but willing to warm up with a bit of coaxing...she could use basic training, but that's a great bonding tool for new owners, teaching your dog to respond to your voice, and your commands, and probably help her be less leery of other people by being in a class situation.

Her body is in great shape, she loves to run, is learning to catch a ball (and getting better about bringing is back to you)...her coat looks like black satin, she's a very pretty, really nice sized dog.

I do not have any small children in my circle, but I would imagine she could learn to love them too. She doesn't seem to have a mean or snarky bone in her; she's just not been very socialized with people. She's still a kid herself, and I would bet she'll try hard to do whatever is asked of her.

What Millie's Rescue Rep Says: Millie will need a patient adopter to help expose her to the world around her. Working with a trainer will also be helpful. We think she would thrive in a home with another dog or dogs. One of Millie's siblings, Charlie (girl), has been making steady progress in another foster home and has responded well to the foster's dog and regular exposure to the outside world. Millie is sweet but timid.

Medical: Millie is current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and spayed..

Located In: Walnut Creek.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
