Millie: Approximate Birth Date May 1, 2023 Female Black Doberman/Lab Mix, 50 lbs, Spayed

Background: Millie and two other dogs (we think they are siblings) were found in a park in Modesto, likely dumped. A good Sam picked them up and took them to her house, but had to keep them in the backyard as she had other dogs inside the home. We brought all three dogs into the program. Millie was pregnant and thankfully, her foster stepped up in the nick of time so Millie could deliver her pups indoors protected from the harsh 100 degree temperatures that hit Modesto during the summer heatwave.

Millie has done an excellent job taking care of her puppies, and they have all been adopted!

What Millie's Foster Says: Millie was the BEST mama ever!

Even though we think she was barely 10-11 months when she delivered her babies, she took such great care of them, watched over them carefully through each stage, including their first visit to the vet for vaccinations!

I have many friends who visit us with their dogs, and she has not met a single dog she didn't welcome with open paws, and tries to make them her newest best friend!

She's going to be very happy in a home with other dogs, especially playful ones!

Millie is lovely and so athletic! I really think she would love learning agility courses. You would not believe how fast she is!! She absolutely LOVES running!

Incredibly good at learning new things!! Really sweet girl..

She's good on leash... But needs a lot of walking outside of my property that I have not yet done. I know she's willing to try anything, so we will get better at daily walks! She's exceptionally good at the vet - doesn't even flinch getting vaccinations!

She's housetrained, sleeps in a large crate currently, but I know she'd love to be sleeping in someone's bed. She has not shown any kind of toy or food resource guarding, and in fact she is currently eating in my kitchen with five other dogs, no problem!

She is still cautious around new people, but willing to warm up with a bit of coaxing...she could use basic training, but that's a great bonding tool for new owners, teaching your dog to respond to your voice, and your commands, and probably would help her be less leery of people by being in a class situation.

I do not have any small children in my circle, but I would imagine she could learn to love them too. She doesn't seem to have a mean or snarky bone in her; she just has not been very socialized with people. She's still a kid herself, and I would bet she'll try hard to do whatever is asked of her. She's a real diamond in the rough, and whomever ends up with Millie is going to have a most loving, loyal best friend! :)

What Lab Rescue Says: Millie is a pretty dog. Millie will need an active and patient adopter to help expose her to the world around her. Working with a trainer will also be helpful. We think she would thrive in a home with another dog or dogs. One of Millie's siblings, Charlie (girl), has been making steady progress in her adoptive home and has responded well to their dog and regular exposure to the outside world. Millie is sweet but timid and great with people once she gets to know them.

Medical: Millie is current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and spayed.

Located In: Walnut Creek.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
