Princess 8-year-old female yellow Lab 99-lbs Not yet spayed
Background: Her royal highness has been confined to the back yard of her palace for years with occasional forays beyond the grounds for leash walks. She was alone for the vast majority of the day... and spent her nights outside alone in a dog house. Her surrendering owner felt she would do better in another home given his inability to walk her and spend more time with her. We are delighted to have her in a foster home now awaiting her new forever kingdom.
What Princess' Foster Says: Since arriving at our home, Princess has really come into her own – revealing a new part of her personality each day. She is very well behaved; we’ve not seen her counter surf, she does not jump up on people, nor does she chew on any furniture or any of the found objects that she collects from time to time to adorn her dog bed. Princess will get her ball and ask you to play with her; she will grab her leash in her mouth to go for a walk. While we haven't tested it thoroughly yet, we did leave Princess home alone for a solid two hours and she did great! Although she snores, she consistently sleeps soundly through the night. At 8 years of age, and after a sedentary life in recent years, Princess appears determined to recapture her youth. She is now exercising daily, swims regularly, and is on track to lose 20 lbs. She is honing her social skills with other dogs and is renewing her commitment to being a lifelong learner. We suspect she is already fluent in Spanish, and she has been quick to learn new commands in English: “sit,” “stay,” “heel,” “come,” “get your ball / leash.” Princess walks OK on a leash, if there are no distractions, but will definitely require additional leash training. She will also benefit from focused attention on socialization with other dogs, especially smaller dogs; she loves to play, but comes in a bit too “hot” for their (and their owners’) comfort. All in all, Princess has an incredibly lovely disposition, is quite smart, has proven herself to be a fiercely loyal and playful companion, and will make a wonderful addition to a family.
What Princess' Rescue Rep Says: One outstanding lady! The photos and videos speak to Princess' zest for life. Would be a fine dog for a family with children and/or another dog. No idea how she is with cats. Her adopter must be committed to an exercise and dietary regimen to return Princess to an appropriate weight. Needs a strong handler as she requires ongoing work on how to walk on a leash.
Medical: Princess is in great health... albeit more than a few pounds overweight. Heartworm negative. Now current on vaccinations. Microchipped. Needs to lose 20 pounds before she will be spayed.
