Foster needed for ~1-year-old male black Lab "River"

Background: Shortly after he was pulled from the Sacramento City shelter in February 2023, River began training to become a service dog...but, months later, his ever-bubbly personality and overzealous greeting of new dogs resulted in him needing a career-change... so he is coming back to Lab Rescue so we can find him a new forever home.

What River's Trainer Says: Great in crate. Very food motivated. Playful and able to self-entertain. Settles well in the house once he has acclimated to it. Learns new skills quickly. Is a bit rough and pushy meeting new dogs. Gets overly excited when meeting new dogs. Above average prey drive. Easily distracted: "Squirrel!". River walks well on a gentle leader or easy walk harness. He responds to "sit", "down", "let's go", "wait", "stay", "kennel", "come", "off", and "quiet". He has a fairly soft mouth.; he may take food roughly if he is over excited. House-broken.

What River's Rescue Rep Says: What a fabulous dog... just a bit rough around the edges. Will need a strong handler who is ready for a little craziness. An existing dog would be great for River's continued dog socialization. No cats or chickens. Might be too energetic for a home with children.

Medical: River is healthy. Current on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and heartworm negative.

Located In: Vacaville.

If you can foster (or might want to adopt) River, contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net.

Please note our service area: GGLRR adopts to the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
