Rocky 9-yearold male chocolate Lab, 70 lbs, Neutered

Background: Rocky was surrendered by his long-term owner due to the potential long-term expenses of his ear and skin issues. He was originally adopted to his prior owner (when he was just 1-year old) to serve as an emotional support dog to a member of the family.

What Rocky foster says: Rocky is a really good boy and is a pretty happy dog. He will bring you toys if they’re laying around or walk around with one in his mouth until you praise him. He initially bucked like a horse when it was breakfast or dinner time, but has gotten a little better. I now make him sit before I serve him his food. He has to be fed using a special "slow" bowl because he eats so fast. I clean his ears twice a week, which was recommended by his dermatologist at UC Davis. This is an ongoing thing so that we keep any irritation, inflammation, or infection at bay. At first, he can be resistant but once we get inside of his ears to wipe and clean, he does hold still. He hangs out with our other three dogs just fine and is the best walker EVER! Does not pull at all and stops when you stop. He is a really sweet boy and likes to sleep on his bed with a blanket over him. :)

What Treasure's Rescue Rep Says: A pretty awesome mature dog. Rocky was an emotional support animal for his prior owner. Rocky would be great in a family with children and/or other dogs. No idea how he would be with cats. Rocky is on a prescription Hills Veterinary z/d dog kibble.

Medical: We enlisted the services of a dermatologist at UC Davis to get a handle on Rocky's ears and skin. Rocky’s ears are doing so much better now. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by them at all. No rubbing them and no smell. Ongoing ear wash (twice a week) will be needed. His skin also seems to be doing better and very little to no itching. His adopter will have to be committed to staying ahead of ear infections through preventive routine ear cleaning. Current on vaccinations and neutered. Need to confirm heartworm test and microchip status.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
