Roxann: 4-Year Old Female Black Lab, 50 lbs, Not Spayed

Background and What Family Says: Roxann was acquired from a breeder when she was a puppy during the pandemic. Roxann's human brother, who has special needs, now needs a considerable amount of extra time and specific care. As a result, Roxann is crated in the home 10-12 hours/day with her primary exercise done in the backyard in the evenings.

We would like to find a better home for Roxann. She's a good dog, but given our family's current situation, it's becoming more difficult to provide the home that would ultimately be best for her. She really needs a home that has a fenced in yard or a very active family. She will play for hours if you let her and has a ton of energy. She would be a great hiking companion.

She does not have much socialization with other dogs but has done well when encountering other dogs during walks. She's had basic obedience training and is good on a leash and knows several commands such as heel, sit, down and stay.

What Roxann's Rescue Rep Says: Upon meeting Roxann, entering the backyard, her dad forewarned me that she would jump and that she did! It was a little disconcerting as she jumps on you full force while barking, but did settle down after a few minutes. Her dad started tossing a toy, and she quickly fixated on that. Roxann can play fetch non-stop. All you need to do is put away the toy, and she will stop. Although Roxann is high energy, I was able to walk her on leash with light pulling but nothing extreme. She would look up at me and check in, and I always said "good girl" We didn't encounter any other dogs on our walk. We did, however, come across a dead rat which Roxann sniffed at and kept on walking. Roxann let me touch her all over and doesn't seem sensitive to touch on any part of her body.

Lab Rescue is seeking a family who is committed to making her a part of their family, working with her, taking basic obedience classes together and devoting time to her. Roxann is a wonderful dog who aims to please. We want Roxann in a home where she is not left for long stretches of the day. A stay-at-home parent, families who work from home or families who can take her to work with them would be ideal. A family who wants a dog to accompany them on outdoor adventures and vacations would be wonderful!

We are looking for an active home where Roxann will receive the daily exercise and activity that she craves. Due to her excitability and jumping when meeting people, we don't recommend a home with small children. She is a nice dog, a young and energetic girl, that would thrive in an active home with experienced owners who can provide her with attention, training and exercise. Roxann is crate trained.

Medical: Roxann is up to date on core vaccines. GGLRR will coordinate her spay and microchip.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
