Schroeder Yellow Lab Mix Puppy, Male, ~Birthdate Nov. 8, 2024, 25 lbs

“Before you get a dog, you can’t quite imagine what living with one might be like; afterward, you can’t imagine living any other way." [Caroline Knapp]. Let Schroeder fill your life with spirit and joy!

Background: This delightful youngster was among seven puppies found nursing from their mama dog in a "red-tagged" abandoned house in Lake County. Taken to the Lake County shelter for care and safety, we brought them and mama into our program on 23 December. We are delighted to have the opportunity to help them find some awesome forever homes. Mama dog and four of Schroeder's siblings have been adopted.

What Schroeder's foster says: Schroeder is a love bug. He thinks he is lap dog. He loves to curl up by you and be your best friend. He loves to explore and discover the world around him. Out in public, he loves attention from all those that will give it. Working on walking on a leash. He plays with his brother Charlie Brown and snuggles next to him at night in the x-pen. He is still learning manners and forgets that jumping up on people isn’t ok. But he is food motivated so making training much easier. He is not house broken but the accidents are getting fewer and fewer. He goes to bed around 8pm and goes at 10pm to go to the bathroom. He is back up at 6am to go outside but comes back into x-pen and sometimes falls asleep. He eat 1.5 cups of food twice a day. Breakfast is around 7am and dinner is around 5pm. He currently lives in a very busy household with small and big children. Not sure about cats but I do have 2 larger female dogs and he does fine with them.

What Rescue Rep Says Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention, can't be left alone much. Eat, poop/pee, play, sleep... repeat, repeat, repeat. Puppy-raising is also filled with joy and fun. Young puppies have sharp teeth and tend to go for human toes and fingers when available. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to fully commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too.

Medical: Shroeder is in fine health -- currently 25 pounds and is growing like crazy. He has received all three rounds of distemper vaccinations -- so he is cleared to go out in public and take on the world. Neutering, microchipping, and Rabies vax are down the road and will be covered by Lab Rescue.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
