Violet: 6-year old spayed female silver Lab, 70 lbs

Background: Violet’s owner obtained her for use as a service dog and Violet turned out to not be suitable for the job. The owner is not in a position to be able to keep a non-service dog and contacted GGLRR to help find Violet a loving home where she can thrive as a family pet.

What owner says: Violet is a sweet, playful, and attentive dog who thrives on verbal communication and lots of fetch. She also loves swimming and travel and cuddles! She is great with other dogs and children and can be good with adult cats if introduced slowly.

What Rescue Rep Says Violet is a sweet and affectionate dog that will make a great family pet for someone. Violet has had training, and knows and responds well to many verbal commands. She can still be jumpy/bouncy when she gets excited. She was fine with me handling her and did not show any guarding tendencies. She pulls some walking on leash, but does well on an Easy Walk harness, and listens to verbal cues. She can be leash reactive to some dogs but responds to commands and does fine once she gets to know a dog. She has lived with other dogs and a cat. She does show prey drive towards squirrels. Violet will thrive in a home with routine and structure, with consistent and enforced boundaries and rules, in addition to lots of love and cuddles.

Medical: Violet is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She has seasonal skin allergies that respond well to treatments of apoquel and cytopoint in the spring and fall.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
