Whiskey: 2 Year-Old (in April 2025) Male Yellow Lab, ~73 lbs, Neutered
Background: The owner has rehomed Whiskey due to a move for a new job, and the time commitments of the position have her out of the home for several hours. She feels Whiskey deserves more than she can currently provide. Whiskey has been well taken care of, given toppers with his meals (sardines in water) and a frozen carrot for a treat to help keep his teeth clean. The decision to rehome him wasn't an easy one but she knew it was for the best.
What Whiskey's Foster Says: Whiskey is a very sweet boy who’s social, curious and energetic. At the dog park he’s gentle and socializes with everyone (dogs and people), although I haven’t seen him engage in much play (with dogs or people). He adapted to me and my home effortlessly: he started bonding with me right away, and he has slept through the night, every night. Like most labs, Whiskey is very food motivated. He will sit on command, but usually only when there’s a treat in hand. He’ll go into his crate on command, and he’s quite comfortable there. He sleeps beside my bed on the floor, in his little hammock bed (but I’m sure he would sleep in his crate too). He loves riding in the car – so much so that he whines when red lights don’t change to green quickly enough for him. Whiskey loves everyone, sometimes a bit too enthusiastically when he jumps and/or licks. Along with pulling on walks, those are Whiskey’s only bad habits that I’ve observed. Whiskey is a beautiful, fun-loving dog who’s full of love and energy.
What Whiskey's Rescue Rep Says: Upon meeting Whiskey, I found a friendly, energetic dog. He was with his sister (Riley) who is also in our program with a different foster. He allowed all over handling and jumped a bit but nothing over the top. He is a strong dog and does pull some but nothing extreme. He's been around older children and teens 12-17, and I suspect he'd be good with younger children as well. He is crate trained, likes to swim, enjoys car rides, and playing fetch (although he hasn't played fetch at his foster's yet). He is reported to be a counter surfer and has dug in the backyard. He does not like fireworks.
We'd like to see Whiskey with a family where he won't be left alone for long stretches of the day and one where he can be out and about on family walks and adventures. He's young and requires attention and exercise!
Medical: Whiskey is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and heartworm negative. He is currently being treated for a bilateral ear infection.
