Winnie: Approximate 1 Year-Old Spayed Female Black Lab Mix, 58 Pounds

Background: Winnie made her way to GGLRR after being picked up as a stray by the shelter in Hollister. Winnie had been there for some time without any interest, so they reached out to GGLRR for help as they were at capacity.

What Winnie's Foster Says: Winnie is a sweet but jumpy girl. She loves attention and love and is learning not to jump for it. She loves to play with her foster brothers. She has a gentle mouth. She walks good on the leash, she will make a great running buddy. She is a crate superstar, snuggled up and dreaming soundly throughout the night without a peep. She is eager to learn and please. And her coat is soft and silky!

What Winnie's Rescue Rep Says: Upon first meeting Winnie at the shelter, I met a young, energetic, friendly, and very jumpy Lab mix.

Having been at the shelter for a while, she was understandably excited when we met.

Her first instinct was to greet me with jumps. Once outside in the enclosed yard, I had to brace myself against the fence as she would occasionally break her zoomie routine to jump up for attention.

Initially, walking her was a challenge due to her eagerness to jump, but she responded well to "sit" and calmed down enough for me to walk her around the yard without jumping after just a minute. She often approached to sit beside me, enjoying pets and handling (checking her ears, teeth, paws, and tail).

Winnie interacted positively with a small chihuahua, wanting to play, and we were able to guide her away without any issues. She also did well with a large, energetic male dog, submitting to him when he tried to hump her.

Very treat-motivated, Winnie kept her kennel clean and showed no signs of resource guarding over food or toys. While she chased after a toy, she didn’t bring it back.

Winnie has been in a fantastic foster home with three canine foster siblings: two males and one female. Unfortunately, she doesn't get along with the female. It appears they are both vying for their human mom's attention. We plan to take Winnie for a doggie daycare evaluation to determine if she has issues with other females as well.

She will require an active home that has time to provide her with exercise and structure. We would like to see Winnie in a home where a family will work with her to hinder the jumping, a home where she won't be left alone for long stretches of the day, one with a large yard where she can run and do her zoomies. Small children aren't recommended due to Winnie's jumping and intense zoomie sessions (nothing to do with aggression - it's accidentally knocking them over). We know she does well with other male dogs. Female dogs and cats are unknown.

Winnie is crate-trained.

Medical: Winnie is spayed, microchipped,  and up to date on vaccinations, with a recent negative heartworm test.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
