Zeke -- 7-month-old male black Lab Not yet neutered 55 pounds

Background: Originally from a breeder in Texas, Zeke’s owners have had him for five months. His high energy and rambunctious nature are just too much for this family (with young small children) who loves him very much. They are incredibly torn about giving him up, but feel it best that he go to a home that can provide the room for Zeke to thrive.

What Zeke's Current Owner Says: Zeke (Ezekiel) is sweet with an outgoing personality. He is both house-broken and crate-trained. My husband works from home so Zeke is not left alone during the day for more than two hours at a time. Zeke spends a lot of the day in our backyard playing and for potty breaks. Zeke completed training and knows “sit”, “stay”, “down”, and “come”. We exercise him daily via 1-2 ~45-minute walks and playing fetch in our backyard. While he doesn’t often get out to socialize with other dogs, we have had several play dates with a beagle. Zeke likes to ride in the car. He pulls a little on leash, especially at the start of walks. He is a major licker when it comes to children. Very excited to romp with small children – a bit dangerous as he can just knock them all around. Very interested in cats; loves to get close and sniff. He is a very sweet but high energy dog. I think he would excel in a large open space preferably with no or older children.

What Our Evaluator Says: Zeke is friendly, good-natured, & energetic. His owner just had surgery after a knee injury resulting from Zeke's impulsive behavior. Zeke has also knocked their child over (no injuries). His behavior isn't malicious -- he's a 7-month-old unneutered male pup, prone to zoomies. Zeke needs more space & plenty of exercise. Older children might be safer with him. Training him was so difficult that his owner suspected he might have hearing problems. They did some research and tested his hearing; a partial hearing loss was diagnosed by their veterinarian. Zeke completed a full course of dog training, but because he missed the final class, they don't have a "diploma."

What Zeke's Rescue Rep Says: A typical young goofy Lab. Will required continued human leadership and lots of exercise. Not ideal for a family small children or anyone unsteady of their feet. Would do great in a home with any existing dog and/or cat.

Medical: Zeke is in fine health, but he does have some hearing loss. Current on vaccinations. Needs heartworm test. Not yet neutered or microchipped.

Located in: Vacaville.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
