Arlo: 9 month old, fox red Lab mix, neutered

Background: Arlo’s owner's living situation has changed and she is no longer able to keep him. Arlo is thought to be a half Lab half Golden Retriever mix.

What Arlo's Owner Says: Arlo is a wonderful dog and a strong puppy. He is housetrained and crate trained. He goes into his crate beautifully and stays for up to 4 hours. I have not crated him for longer.

He is not reactive to my 2 house cats~he is great in the house with them, doesn’t really care that they are there and they don’t care about him. Of course he wants to eat their cat food! He stays off the furniture when told and knows not to have his toys on the furniture if he is allowed. I let him on the couch sometimes ; )

He is not reactive to my chickens (most of the time. He will sometimes give them a chase in the yard but only for a moment and never aggressive)

He walks on leash well (we are working on the pulling). He knows sit/stay/release very well and is eager to learn more. He LOVES to run. He does jump happily on people and at times his mouth will be open and teeth are out but NO biting, sniping, ever. He has zero aggression at the dog park and plays very well with all ages and sizes of other dogs.

He has no food or resource guarding issues. I can always open his mouth to see what he might have picked up and I can feed him by hand and also put my hand into his dog bowl while eating without any reaction from him.

He’s marvelous and lovely; great around my 10 year old and 15 year old and friendly to everyone on walks.

What Arlo's Rescue Rep Says: Arlo is a great dog and will do well with an adopter who has the time and energy for a young dog. We are looking for someone who can provide Arlo with plenty of exercise (a tired dog is a good dog!) and continue working on training and providing structure for him. His owners have built a great foundation. Arlo is eager to please and will be a great companion. He will need some practice to learn not to pull while walking on leash. A securely fenced yard is important, as Arlo has started to show some ability to leap over a 4 ft fence. Arlo is sweet and social, though still learning manners and appropriate interaction styles. He might do well in a home with another “teacher” dog who can provide guidance.

Medical: Arlo is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, with a recent heartworm test.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
