BUTCH

BUTCH: 1 Year-Old (DOB: 12/16/22) Male Yellow Lab, Neutered. 62 lbs

Background: Butch was surrendered by his family as he had proven to be too much for them to handle. The couple, who are in their mid to late 70's, admitted that Butch needed a younger family to care for him. He was acquired through a breeder in Texas at the age of 8 weeks. Butch has a lot of energy and is very strong on leash. The family lives on a few acres and they managed Butch's energy by letting him roam the securely fenced property the entire day. He was crated in the garage in the evening.

From the Shelter: We have put Butch around other dogs in the shelter and though he doesn’t have a lot of social skills he does want to play. We have not seen any aggression. He's been great with the staff too.

What Butch's Foster Says: Meet Butch. A gorgeous yellow neutered male lab. Butch walks on a leash and does all the basic commands: Sit, Wait, Come, Right-now, Down, Off. He loves to learn and is willing to please. He does not charge through doors. He gets along well with other dogs once properly introduced. Of course, Butch is still a puppy, so he will get bouncy at times, but quickly quiets down. He would be an awesome addition to any family with kids over 7. He is very social and loves to play catch, ride in the car, or just sleep at your feet. He is well-mannered and very polite. He has a soft mouth and takes treats gently. He sleeps on his bed through the night. He is a love bug and thrives on attention and belly rubs.

What Butch's Rescue Rep Says: Another one of our rescue reps received a call to come and evaluate a Butch at the shelter. Here's what she reported:

"I met an adorable, friendly and exuberant attention seeking puppy who was full of beans. Butch has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. He is treat motivated and has a soft mouth which is a big help in training. Butch is housebroken. He sleeps through the night on his dog bed and is adverse to being in the crate, possibly from his previous home that garaged him overnight. Loves to fetch. Has good leash manners. Can get excited when seeing other dogs on walks and needs proper introductions. Likes to steal items, remotes, shoes, phones and to play keep away. Improving his bounciness and can be a jumper. Can be a bull in a china shop at times. No resource guarding."

Any kids in the home should be 7 and up due to some jumping and excitability. Has prey drive so no cats in the home please.

Lab Rescue is looking for an adopter who has experience raising a young, energetic dog and has the time and patience to devote to this very well deserving boy.

Medical: Butch is neutered, Heartworm negative, updated on vaccinations and chipped.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
