ELLIE     13 Month Old White Female Labrador Retriever 60 pounds

Background: Ellie was purchased from a breeder by the current owner’s son; who gave Ellie to them as a gift. They got Ellie when she was 8 weeks of age and she is a lovely dog but circumstances have changed for them and they now need to find Ellie a new home.

What Ellie's Current Owner Says: Ellie has been a wonderful dog and we have given her a solid foundation. It is very hard to give her up for adoption but it is the right thing to do; we just do not have the time for a young Lab. We feel she needs to be in a home with more active people that can give her the exercise she needs. Ellie is housetrained; she sleeps in her crate and loves to go for car rides. We have taken her to the dog park and she truly Loves to play with other dogs. She knows: sit, stay, down, come, wait and off; we have taken her to a professional trainer, who referred us to Lab Rescue.  Ellie has decent leash skills and will pull a little more when she sees other dogs as she wants to go play! Ellie loves to swim and play fetch. Ellie loves other dogs, kids and she has not been around cats. (She will mouth at times so the possible adopter should have older kids. (We are working on this behavior with Ellie.) She is very gentle and submissive with other dogs and loves to play chase. We crate Ellie when we leave her alone and she will cry in her crate. We have left her not crated and Ellie will counter surf and will chew on non-dog items. (She still have a lot of puppy still in her and she is not getting the exercise she needs.)

What Ellie's Rescue Rep Says: Ellie is a Great dog and in talking to her dog walker who lives in the city Ellie is still a puppy. He walks Ellie a couple hours of the day and she does fine in the city. She can work on her leash skills and she has bonded with him quickly; he just loves Ellie. Lab Rescue would like to find Ellie a home that has the time for a young energic Lab. She can be in a home with another dog; older kids and we are not sure about cats. We would like a home that will continue her training and a home that will manage any flares up with her yeast infections. Ellie is a wonderful girl and we want a home where she will be part of the pack!

Medical: Ellie is a very healthy girl. She is spayed, updated on her shots, takes regular flea and tick medication and she is microchipped. She is at a healthy weight – 60 pounds! Ellie does get yeast in her ears and paws from time to time and they have taken her into the Vet to get treated. The adopted will need to stay on top on this for the care of Ellie.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
