Jemma 2-year-old female yellow Lab 60-lbs Spayed

Background: Jemma and her pals (Hazel, Honey, and Callie) joined the Lab Rescue program from the Chico shelter where they'd spent the last nine months. They were "on hold" as issues with their prior owners worked its way thru the judicial system. Now that the legal beagles have finished their work, Jemma and the others are free to find their new forever home.

What The Shelter Says: Jemma is the softest. She follows Honey’s lead. When separated, she does well and will play and engage with the people she is with. She will sniff and be bouncy, but not over the top. She eats her food too fast and chokes a bit on her kibble so we use a slow feeder. Jemma also loves to fetch.

What Jemma's Foster Says: Jemma is a sweet dog and as friendly as they come, always eager to shower you with kisses and enjoy some belly rubs. Despite her quiet demeanor, she's far from shy and loves being around people and my two labs. We're unsure about cats as she hasn’t been exposed yet. Remarkably well-behaved, Jemma hasn't barked or whined since being in foster care and hasn't shown any destructive tendencies like chewing on things. She seems to be house-trained and is comfortable sleeping through the night in her crate. She also knows "sit" and "come." While she's a bit enthusiastic on the leash and may need some training in that department, she's already showing improvement with a halti/gentle leader leash. Jemma is food motivated and is even learning to enjoy some tasty fruits. Jemma does get excited when getting attention and will jump up so would likely be better in a home with older children, not toddlers. She could also benefit from learning from older dog siblings as she often watches my dogs and follows their lead. Jemma is a gem!

What Jemma's Rescue Rep Says: Sweet, soft, and cuddly. A home with older kids would be fine. An existing dog would be terrific too. Unknown how she is with cats. Unusually light-colored "cream" color -- she is stunning. Will need an active home with peeps that are around most of the time. Appears to like the water... so a pool in the backyard (or a cabin on the river... or a beachfront home) would be lovely.

Medical: Jemma is healthy. Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations.

Located In: St. Helena.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
