Bruno: ~3 Year-Old Chocolate Male Lab, 67 lbs, Neutered

Background: Bruno made his way to Lab Rescue through the Contra Costa County shelter where he was picked up as a stray.

What Bruno's Foster Says: Bruno is a very handsome and friendly chocolate Lab with enthusiasm and medium energy.

He has learned to stay off the furniture and sleeps through the night in a dog bed in my bedroom. He wants to be a cuddler. Bruno will follow me or my son around the house.

While he can get overly excited when seeing another dog, he is able to walk alongside one after the initial burst of energy. We are working on walking past other dogs without the loud energy burst. Bruno is not aggressive, at all, but wants to play rough with other dogs. He is learning commands quickly including sit, lay down, stay, and come. Bruno is improving on not jumping up to greet me as well as on others.

Bruno has a great appetite, is treat motivated and takes treats gently. While he has not destroyed any of my socks or shoes, he needs durable toys to keep him busy.

With two active walks per day, he is ready for bed by 9 pm. We are working on crate training. He goes in easily but barks after a short time.

Bruno is a boy with a happy disposition.

What Bruno's Rescue Rep Says:We had Bruno evaluated by one of our volunteers who found a nice dog that allowed all over handling and played rough and tumble with another dog of equal stamina in an enclosed area of the shelter.

He has been in a foster home since the end of August ('26) and is getting familiar with living inside a home, e.g. learning crate training (which he doesn't love but has been tolerating for short periods). He is a chewer and has gone through the foster's toys so we are replenishing with more durable, heavy duty chews.

Bruno is housetrained, has zero aggression, is friendly, and is eager to please. Given two nice walks/day to burn off his young dog energy, you will find him resting quietly on his dog bed by 9pm.

Work in progress: Bruno is a strong boy who pulls when he gets excited on walks, so he needs a confident, physically capable handler who can keep him secure. He loves other dogs, but lacks a polite filter. His greeting style is over-the-top, pushy, and jumpy. While his intentions are completely friendly, his "teenage" excitement can overwhelm other dogs. He will need an adoptive home committed to positive, structured leash and reactivity training to help him learn calm greeting habits and polite leash walking.

Active family with bigger children are preferred. Bruno can very well unintentionally knock over small children.

Medical: Bruno is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested (-) and is on preventatives.

Located In: Mountain View.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
