Young Buddy, 1-year-old male black Lab, 72 lbs, Neutered

Background: Buddy came to SF Animal Care and Control when his owner was arrested and after his release, sadly never came to redeem Buddy. The shelter advises: "This heavenly one-year old black Lab has a gorgeous soft wavy coat and soulful eyes. He's an affiliative lad who loves full body massages and the great outdoors and is (no surprise) a world-class ball fetcher! He also enjoys our small kiddy pool! Buddy is very chill and wonderfully easygoing in presence of other dogs."

What our evaluator says: Buddy is pretty darn calm and has a great personality. His tail is always wagging -- a happy-go-lucky dog!!! There does not seem to have any aggression in his blood!!! We met him in the shelter play area, and he explored the entire area -- checked it all out. Nice soft wiggly body. Very affiliative. Pulls a little on the leash, but not bad. Sits for treats; nice soft mouth. Allowed me to touch, poke, prod, squeeze him all over. No resource guarding. Great personality. A very calm and mellow dog... for a 1-year-old.

What Buddy's foster says: Buddy is a very handsome one-year old black lab who loves belly rubs and fetching balls. He loves to be around people and is very affectionate never missing and opportunity to curl up with his people. He does fairly well with other dogs but still needs some socialization in that area. He loves walking in nature and on the beach. He has had some training, follows instruction well and knows some basis commands (sit, stay, shake). He also walks well on a leash without too much pulling. Buddy would be perfect for a young energetic owner or even a young family. He needs to be around people who will give him the love and affection that deserves as well as the time and energy to continue with his training as he grows up.

What Rescue Rep Says This young guy is a bit of a dream dog. Would be fine with another dog in the home. No idea how he is with cats or young kids... so it is best that his forever home not have either. Buddy appears to have been well cared for and well-treated by his former owner. Despite his lack of the typical crazy-crazy young Lab behavior, we want Buddy's adopter to fill his life with lots of exercise, adventures, outings with other dogs and a fabulous fun-filled life.

Medical: In great health. Current on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered. Heartworm test pending.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
