Bullet – 1.5 Year-Old Male Black Lab Mix, 89 Pounds, Neutered
Background: Bullet is a sweet, big pup who was more than ready to leave his lonely backyard existence behind and come into rescue where he can thrive. Through no fault of his own, as Bullet got bigger, his world got smaller-with two young children (3 and under), a new baby, and an elderly grandmother at home, his previous family simply didn't have the space or time for a big, energetic dog. To keep everyone safe from accidental tumbles, Bullet was living in a backyard kennel with daily food and water, but minimal attention or exercise. His owner realized Bullet's current life wasn't fair and wanted what was best for him. He thought about keeping him but knew he deserved so much more.
What Bullet's Foster Says: Bullet is a playful and goofy puppy. He learns very quickly. There have not been any potty training accidents at all. He can be free range in the kitchen, dining room and living room when I am home. He sleeps well on a dog bed in the master bedroom with us all night. When I leave the house, I either put him in his crate or in our backyard.
Bullet rides in the back of the station wagon well, laying down as I pick up speed. But if he sees a dog outside the car, he may bark. Bullet goes on long walks in our neighborhood and hiking on our local trail. He currently walks with a Gentle Leader.
He is reactive to a few dogs we see and we are working on that. As he feels more comfortable and as he becomes more socialized, he will gain confidence. He has had fun playtime with a local Golden Retriever and with a cattle dog. Bullet is protective and will alert bark if he hears someone out front. He knows Sit, Down, Wait (at doorway, wait for food) and Go Potty.
Bullet is a fun large Lab mix that will bring a lucky new owner lots of joy and affection.
What Bullet's Rescue Rep Says: Bullet is a big pup; we think possibly a Lab mixed with Great Dane. Meeting Bullet at his original home, once free in the backyard, he was surrounded by cooped chickens, caged Parakeets and lovebirds, one of the French bulldogs, and a cat - he didn't bother any of them. The family said he liked to play with the small dogs (2 Frenchies, a Chihuahua) and the cat, but they didn't always want to play with him. Although he came from a situation where he was safe, but left alone in the backyard with minimal interaction, resilient Bullet has a social, affectionate nature and we're so glad a foster stepped up to take him. He was more than ready to leave his backyard days behind and step into the life of a true family dog. We are looking for experienced dog lovers who will welcome him fully into their home-sleeping comfortably indoors, joining in on everyday family routines, and tagging along on outdoor adventures. Because he thrives on companionship and connection, we are looking for a home where he won't be left alone for long periods and one where he is treated as one of the family. Bigger-sized children would be best as Bullet may unintentionally knock over little ones. Additionally, not for anyone unsteady on their feet.
Medical: He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm (-) and up to date on Rabies and DHPP.
