Choco 8-year old male chocolate Lab, 73 lbs Neutered

Background: Choco's current family took in both Choco and his sister from a friend who could no longer keep them. Their goal from the very beginning was to find them new forever homes. Choco's sister was taken in by another rescue organization, and we are thrilled to help find Choco his new home.

What prior family says: Pure-bred Choco is a playful, kind, sweet and loving dog. We've been "fostering" him while looking for a new home for him. Choco is house-trained and crate-trained. We can leave him alone in the house without any concern. He is currently alone for 6-7 hours each workday. Knows a few commands and loves to fetch. Likes to ride in the car. We do allow him up on our couch. Gentle with small children. Plays with our existing dogs daily; loves to hang with the pack but prefers to be with his people.

What Foster Says What a sweet boy! He has adapted to our family, including 2 female labs, so easily and we all really enjoy having him around. He is quick to learn, doesn't counter surf or jump up on people and is such a gentleman, waiting for permission to go through open doors. Choco's leash-walking skills are coming along well when using a halter. He's been on a 5 1/2 mile hike with no problem and had energy after to play with his toys. He loves playing with balls and will fetch occasionally and enjoys taking the squeakers out of toys. Choco gets excited when he sees another dog and wants to meet them. However he can be leash reactive to some dogs so needs slow introductions. Squirrels and cats are also of great interest but he seems unsure of what to do. Choco may have some separation anxiety if left alone in a crate. However, we've left him outside the crate with our dogs for a few hours and there have been no issues. Choco is a super easy and loveable dog.

What Rescue Rep Says A wonderful middle-aged dog. Lovely balance of mellow energy and active spirit. A family that can take him on regular walks and has a yard where he can fetch balls would be ideal. He would do well with children and/or an existing dog given his calm demeanor and past experience living with other dogs. Cats may be ok with slow introductions. Choco loves just being with his humans and would do best with a family that can continue his leash and obedience training, but also give him lots of attention, belly rubs and ear scratches.

Medical: One healthy dog. Current on vaccinations and preventatives. Microchipped and neutered.

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
