Cindy 10-year-old yellow Lab, female 60 lbs, Spayed

Background: An owner-surrender from Sacramento, Cindy had journeyed from Georgia to Montana... before coming to California. Soon after she joined our program, we determined she was dealing with a significant infestation of heartworm. We are carefully guiding her through the lengthy heartworm elimination protocol. See the attached Treatment Guidelines.

What Foster Says: We've been fostering Cindy (aka "Cindy Lou") for nearly two months... but we have some travel plans that requires Cindy to find a new foster home. Cindy is a delightful house dog. She goes with the flow, gets along with all people and dogs, and figures out the routine pretty quickly. She has moved a lot and attaches to whoever, wherever she lands. She is a survivor. Favorite things: food and booping noses and greeting you at the door. She knows her name, is house trained, pees and poops on grassy areas. She responds well to music. Sleeps on her bed in our room. Not too interested in toys, but will need some intellectual stimulation during her recovery period when her movement will be further restricted. She continues to eat, drink, pee, poop, and breathe regularly.

What Rescue Rep Says: We are delighted to be caring for lovely Cindy. She is such a sweet girl. Her tail wags in appreciation. We need a quiet/calm foster home a backyard and with few steps. No need to take Cindy on walks. Exercise is discouraged. Presence of another older/chill dog would be fine. We want to get her into her new foster home around 15 Sep.

Medical: Cindy is on general rest and relaxation due to the advanced heartworm. She retains fluid in her chest and abdomen cavity that needs occasional draining by a vet. She is at about Day #43 of the heartworm treatment protocol. She will undergo her first injection of heartworm adulticide on ~23 September (Day #61) at Bishop Ranch Vet Center in San Ramon. That will be followed by more R&R as the worms are killed. Visits to see the cardiologist vet at UC Davis might also be warranted.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
