Ellie - 1yr 10mo. yellow lab, 62 lbs, spayed
Background: Ellie has been with her family since she was a puppy. She currently lives with 4 other dogs, but recently has not been getting along with one of them and it has caused a lot of tension in the pack. The family has made the difficult decision to rehome Ellie, so she can live her best life.
What Ellie's Owner Says: Ellie is a tender hearted, sweet, confident lab. Adaptable and easy going, she's happy just to be with you — whether that’s going on a road trip or just downtown for a walk — she’s happy doing anything with you. Ellie’s great loves are people and the car. If given a chance, she loves being stationed at the local coffee shop as the community welcoming committee — she’s got a big heart with so much love to give. For the car — she loves it for sight seeing or even taking a nap while you drive.
There are a variety of ways Ellie has let us know that she’d prefer to be a solo dog in the home. She's lived with 4 other labs and while that was fun at times, it was a bit much — she’d prefer to have more 1:1 time and devotion from her people and she’s a little more independent.
Ellie has no separation anxiety — as a matter of fact she’s the easiest, most flexible, and confident lab we’ve ever had. She is not crate trained and can be left home in the house without destroying anything. Travel which can often disrupt routine doesn’t phase her — she’s happy as long as she’s with her people. Ellie knows lots of commands and tricks, which she will do for you because she’s eager to please you, even if you don’t have treats. She’s lived on a rural acreage and is familiar with all sorts of loud farm equipment. She LOVES to swim —in lakes in the Sierras or a farm pond, and has a fabulous water entry if you are looking to engage her in hunting or sports. Some of her fun quirks: if she heads off to take a quiet nap during the day she takes great pleasure in selecting your smelliest shoe to sleep with (because yes she’s obsessed with you), she gives bottomless kisses, she’ll fetch the ball but then keep it.
What Lab Rescue Says: Ellie is a friendly, confident young Lab who has all the classic Lab qualities—she loves swimming, riding in the car, and spending time with her people. She enjoys meeting new people, happily accepting pets and handling all over during her evaluation, and shows no signs of food guarding.
While Ellie may interact appropriately with some dogs, her history and evaluation suggest she would be happiest as the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy all of her family's attention. This also includes cats as she likes to chase them. Ellie can be jumpy when excited and occasionally mouthy, so a home with older children \would be the best fit.
Ellie is a strong dog and will benefit from continued leash training, as she tends to pull on walks. She lives on a rural property but has also traveled with her owner, including staying in hotels, proving she may be adaptable and comfortable in new environments.
Ellie would thrive with an active family that includes her in everyday life. A home with a securely fenced yard, regular exercise, and plenty of opportunities for adventures—especially anywhere she can swim—would be ideal. She'd be best in a family that does not leave her home for long periods of time and can provide her the attention she deserves.
Medical: Ellie is spayed, up to date on rabies, will be getting her DA2PP booster in a few weeks, microchipped and heartworm negative.
