Frankie – Year-Old Male Yellow Lab, 70 Pounds, Neutered
Background: Frankie's family adopted him from his dad's boss when Frankie was about three months old. Frankie turned out to be too much for his parents to care for; they thought they could bring in a third dog but with one of their other dogs being a senior, Frankie sometimes wants to play with her when she wants to rest. In addition, there is an elderly parent with mobility issues that will be cared for in the home. Frankie's parents realized he deserves more of an active home where Frankie can receive more attention and activity. Both of his parents work out of the home and Frankie was left alone several hours a day.
What Frankie's Foster Says: Frankie is the definition of a good boy. He’s happy-go-lucky, affectionate, and loves making friends with just about everyone he meets, people and dogs alike. He loves being by your side and is always ready for attention or a cuddle.
Frankie is generally mellow around the house, but still has puppy energy and when he has energy to burn, he loves to play and needs plenty of physical and mental stimulation. He enjoys playing with other dogs, although he can be physical and doesn’t always realize his size. Because he can also be a little jumpy when excited, he’d likely be a great family dog for a home with slightly older kids.
He’s very smart and food-motivated, attentive, responds well to his name, knows “sit,” and is quickly learning “down.” He’s also pretty good on leash and has tons of potential with continued training. We’ve been working on getting him comfortable in a crate, but he’s not crate-trained. He shows no resource guarding, and is an all-around sweet, loving guy.
With continued training, daily activity, and lots of love and attention, Frankie will make an amazing companion for a family looking for an affectionate, fun-loving new best friend.
What Frankie's Rescue Rep Says: We had one of our volunteers meet with Frankie. He did well meeting her and her very energetic 6 year old female Shepherd. She was more energetic than Frankie and wanted to play. Prior to coming into rescue, Frankie was living on several acres and that's where he was getting his exercise. He is going to require some basic training including getting familiar walking on a leash which his current fosters are working on. He's reported to jump on people, bark when excited, and chase cats. He might be too much for smaller children because he's hyper and jumps on people. We are seeking an active family where Frankie won't be left alone for long stretches of the day, one committed to basic training and where he can be an active member of the family.
Medical: Frankie is in good health, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on Rabies and Distemper. We will be getting him heartworm tested.
