Frida ~1-year-old female black Lab 65 lbs Not yet spayed
Background: Frida came from a central valley home where she had been kept with dozens (yes, dozens) of other pure-bred Labrador Retrievers. We teamed with other northern California Lab Rescue organizations to get all the Labs surrendered from the owner and they are all in foster homes now. Phew! Frida is now learning what living in a home is all about.
What Frida's Foster Says: Frida, Frida, Frida! We named her "Frida". Fortunately, Frida appears to have been well fed and is in good health. But she was not potty trained, didn’t know how to go up or down stairs, seemingly had not ever been indoors, and may not have been in a car or even outside a kennel/pen before. But in the short week we’ve had her, she has blossomed tremendously – from a tepid, scared, what is “happening to me” look, to a “give me what you got” perspective! We took her to play with another dog about her size (52 lbs) and, after a bit of warming time, they became fast friends and were romping in the tall grass together outside. She is slowly learning to walk on a leash and will surely become a great hiker and swimmer once she understands what it’s all about. Frida is now house trained, sleeps through the night in her crate, and has very good indoor manners. She has the sweetest disposition you can imagine. Frida is not yet interested in walking on a leash nor getting into the car -- both are quite foreign to her. She’ll be a great family dog -- a loyal companion for kids and adults alike. And until she finds that home, we’ll keep showing her what a Labrador’s life can be!
What Frida's Rescue Rep Says:Major transformation is underway for wonderful Frida. She would be great in a family with children and/or other dogs. No idea how she is with cats, but I suspect she will be fine. Her adopter will need to continue her introduction to and comfort with "normal dog life". Lots of exercise and socialization with other dogs is a must. We want her to be the center of attention in her new home and not left alone for long hours. She may very well be fully grown at 65 pounds.
Medical: Frida was recently seen by our vet who found she was in good health... but needed treatment for an ear infection (nothing major). She received a Rabies vaccination and a distemper vaccination -- will need a distemper vax booster in a few weeks. Heartworm negative. Will soon be spayed.
